Museo de Arte de Ponce

Its internationally renowned collection comprises more than 5,000 works of art from various cultures, creating a unique dialogue between the Old and New Worlds.

Coming to Ponce, the last thing I expected to find was such a well curated museum. And much to my surprise, it had one of my favorite pieces - Flaming June. The museum's history is interesting and it shows how personal taste can create an amazing collection. Small space, easily accessible art. Definitely worth the time and visit. Small gift shop that doesn't take advantage of the collection. Absurdly low entry fee - which I appreciated because it allows more people to access the collection. However, I strongly encourage those who can to donate so the museum can continue to benefit future generations.

We really enjoyed the Junkanoo Wolrd Museum. We loved hearing about the Junkanoo festival and heritage. Seeing all of the elaborate costumes they wear in the parades was amazing. Quintin and our tour guide gave us a look at how they are made, WHAT SKILL. The pride is apparent in this museum, it is not to be missed.

Small but wonderful art museum in historic Bayamon center close to Tren Urbano. Beware that google maps and waze take you to the wrong place. Use corner of calle Degetau and calle Maceo. Was showing a retrospective of a fascinating artist/printmaker.

Stopped by to see the Shepard Fairey exhibit [on through April] and enjoyed the balance of the galleries immensely. There was an exhibit of women artists from the island which was refreshing, as well as an interestingly organized assemblage of works by island artists as well as others in an unusual juxtaposition of periods and medium. Make it a point to spend a leisurely hour at the galleries.
