Arteria is a new reality in the artistic field; joining the functions of a traditional art gallery with a space dedicated to the continuous achievement of educational projects. Our focus is directed towards the constant search for artistic creativity and possibilities. Our Mission at Arteria is to collaborate with artists and local communities to promote, diffuse, and share the arts to enhance understanding, build communities, and empower lives.
One visit to this colorful San Cristobol art hub is not enough. There is a lot to see. I returned several times! And, it's an enjoyable place to visit. The store/gallery is often bustling with activity as local and regional Mexican artists hang their work, pick up commissions, or stop in for a chat. If you arrive during these times, chances are you'll be swept up in the conversation and invited to meet the artists. If you enjoy Mexican art, check out Arteria. There are items for sale at every price point. Don't miss las piedras in the back. This is a terrific store with a dedicated, English-speaking staff.

Our Origin Zeny Fuentes and Reyna workshop, is located in a small town in Oaxaca. From generation to generation, our families have dedicated themselves to carving and painting wooden figures in a style known as alebrije in order to continue the traditions by creating their own version: the artistic identity where color and sculpture have a specific meaning, full of colors. and love for nature, as well as for its enormous cultural heritage, and now they share their love for this art with everyone, preserving and teaching their family legacy.

"Casa Don Taurino" is a Zapotec textile gallery, focused in preserving the ancient weaving and dying techniques used by our ancestors for the past 2500 years. In this studio gallery you will be able to appreciate the how the weaving is done, where the colors come, and how we get inspired.
Casa Don Taurino is located in a beautiful Oaxaca-style-architecture building, infront of the Sangre de Cristo Church. If you search for the place in google Maps don't get discouraged by the picture you'll find there since the owners made an awesome job refurbishing the building. Inside you will find exquisite textiles, dyed with natural colors, fine-designed ceramics and the most colorful blown glass of all Mexico. It's worth the visit since they make a fine selection of everything they offer, along with the owners warmth.

Enzue Open Art Studio is an exquisite gallery and workshop! During my stay in San Cristóbal I had the opportunity to take their 3 day linocut for beginners class. Husband and wife, Fernando and Enzue have a beautiful way of seeing the world that is woven into the way they teach their classes. This class taught me to enjoy the process of creating, rather than creating to achieve a final outcome. In the three day workshop you get to work outside in a beautiful courtyard, listen to great music, sip excellent tea/coffee and learn the steps of linocut to create your very own piece of art. This experience has definitely been one of the highlights of my trip! Laurelle
