Founded by the local nobility at the end of the 16th century, the Real Maestranza maintains a horse-riding school and is also the builder of an impressive bullring, in the centre of the romantic town of Ronda, near Malaga and the Costa del Sol.

I am so glad this was a suggestion to us as it was not well advertised around the town. The whole area is well laid out and clean. The history of the arena, shown through an audio display, is interested and well documented. All of the displays are well written and the audio commentary is timely and well done. This tour can be done at your own leisure and there are spots to sit and relax and experience the atmosphere of the first bull ring in Spain. A fantastic afternoon. The walk along the cliff edge is well worth the effort...... the views are so so stunning.

Sevilla FC is the oldest football club in Seville, founded in the year 1890. On the 25th of January of that year, it was founded as a private cultural and sporting association. The club was officially registered on the 14th of October of 1905, in order to adapt to changes in legislation. Sevilla FC has been the most successful club in Andalusia, with 73 seasons in the First Division and 13 national and international titles: one La Liga title (45/46), five Spanish Cups (35, 39, 48, 2007, and 2010), five Europa League titles (2006, 2007, 2014, 2015 and 2016), a European Super Cup (2006), and a Spanish Super Cup (2007). Additionally, the club dominated the Andalusian Cup, an official tournament held from 1915 to 1940, winning 18 of the 21 editions.

My girlfriend and I went to watch Sevilla play at home against Levante. Good stadium which is very easy to navigate and find your seats. The seats are close to the pitch meaning everyone can get a great view. Fantastic atmosphere at the game with everyone singing along to the club’s anthem pre game. As for transport to and from the game the stadium is easily reached from Seville centre. There is a shopping centre right next to the stadium with a McDonalds to grab a quite bite to eat before the game. I would really recommend a trip to watch Sevilla play. Our tickets were €35 which we bought off the website prior to attending.

Plaza de Toros

We came there at the opening time at 10 but waited a bit before it actually opens. It was worth waiting for ! We took a guided tour and could follow the bull way when arriving at the Plaza. We saw what they didn't show us in other plazas and really felt the passion of the corrida. We visited the chapel where toreros pray before the fight. It was very interesting and we could ask all the questions we had about this fascinating tradition. We bought a cape and I even got my name tagged on it... it was definitely one of the highlights of our trip ! In the museum you get to see the bull that was first fought in the Plaza... an impressive piece of history.

Due to limited time in Malaga we struggle to locate the Malaga stadium, when we finally arrived at the stadium it was due to close. In the souvenir shop we were told it will be closing in five minutes, when we arrived at the reception we were the only one and our guide was Domingo. The stadium was beautiful also the press room, the home dressing room and the Seating area in the stadium. Best of all was the amazing artwork and the illusion of the Malaga FC badge along the main corridor. We have viewed many football stadium but the illusion in the corridor was outstanding just amazing. Domingo was excellent guide.

Real Maestranza de Caballeria de Sevilla

Beyond the Iberian peninsula most people are rather uncomfortable about bullfighting, which makes a visit to this venerable bullring with attached museums all the more fascinating – not least for those who would never consider attending a bullfight. An inspection of the ring, and the backstage facilities that sustain it (the Plaza, of necessity, has its own ER) is a good counterpoint to a browse around a museum which is full of artwork and costumes celebrating the skill of the matador together with the mounted heads of their animal nemeses. Go with an open mind and you’ll leave with a much better understanding of bullfighting’s place in the life and culture of Andalucía.
