Designed by influential architect Cass Gilbert, this grand building, the highest state capitol dome in the United States, is open to the public for tours and features decadent interior details like marble walls a massive crystal chandelier.
Every May for about the past 10 years we have visited WV and we make sure to always see the capitol building. During the week you can have a guided tour of the inside and it is a good tour. This year we got there around 5PM and just strolled the grounds. The flowers are beautiful. The statuary is amazing, Our favorite is the WV coal miner. We also visit the war memorial each year--WWI, WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam War and the list of names. Thank you for remembering.

The executive director is Ann Serafin is a God send. When my son and his fiancé told me yesterday their venue in PA may cancel their wedding our hearts broke for them. They booked a year and a half ago with everything done up to be their dream wedding. They told me if they cancel they hope to just find a place where the wedding party and immediate family can attend the wedding. I searched to find the most beautiful place to get married in WV. This place came up and when I called Ann was wonderful! I let my son and his fiancé know what I learned and they are ecstatic that even if their venue canceled they have a other option that will allow them to have beautiful photographic memories of their beautiful day. We cannot thank Ann enough for her kindness du8ng these unprecedented times.

Built in 1859 as the centerpiece of the 2,600-acre Henderson plantation, this impressive 17-room pre-Civil War mansion with all of its original furnishings, has survived as a legacy of the Victorian and Edwardian eras.
While visiting friends in Parkersburg, we went to take a tour of the hall. We went on the 1st weekend of November and it just happened that Veterans w/ 1 guest were free. But the $10 admission fee is well worth it on the self guided tour of the house. There are guides on each of the 3 floors and basement that are very knowledgeable, as well as passionate about the house and history. The house is amazing as all, 100%, of the furnishings, pictures, clothing, you name it, it was all original to the Henderson Family. That in itself leaves you awestruck!! The only "downside" is that they do not allow non-flash photography in the house.
