This lovely and wide open square translated as Town Square is the first site that greets you as you walk through the gate into the Old Town. The Squares main feature is the Clock Tower, which speaks for itself and would I am sure make a great meeting place. I always travel alone so have no need for that. The Square though nevertheless makes a great place from which to get your bearings. The Old Town is pretty compact and it is difficult to get lost in here - small streets branch off from this main square in all directions. It is lined with the usual array of tourist shops with a few banks and some wonderful cafes serving delightful iced coffee sundaes. Perfect for relaxing on a warm early summers day.

The medieval orthodox monastery complex situated next to the city, on a hill in the lush Mediterranean vegetation. It is composed of the Great Church, the Small Church and the Temple of Saint Sava, which was built, according to belief, by Saint Sava in the 13th century.
We walked to this Monastery and really enjoyed the history it represented and the care that has been given to it to keep it looking pristine. The entire region of Boka Bay is full of Monasteries high up in their hills and not easy to get to but Savina Monastery is easily accessible on foot. We recommend that you walk up the staircase on the right of the Monastery because about half way up you will find a clearing which gives you a fantastic aerial view of the Monastery and the western part of Boka Bay

Known as the “Bishopric”, this palace is recognisable by its octagonal belfry and the magnificent external staircase. This edifice belonged to the famous Zmajevic family and is one of the symbols of the town of Perast. The palace complex also contains a family chapel dedicated to the Lady of the Rosary.

Inside the old city walls of the old fortress, lies the largest and most important unexplored archaeological dig in the Balkans. The old fortress contain structures that dates to the Roman empire. It is in a state of ruined in every sense of the word. What is available, however, is spectacular and that it clearly displays what an amazing metropolis the space must have been at one time. There are intact walls, rooms, terrorists, cisterns and much more. At the same time, and on the negative side, the space is very poorly maintained and you’re free to walk among the ruins in the rubble. Many places where you are allowed to go present major falling risks. These ruins, in a different and properly managed location, would contain a numerable “do not enter“ signs with barriers to keep people from hurting themselves. That said, we walked freely and loved every minute of it. If you are interested in Roman and medieval history and want to walk through an archaeological dig waiting to happen, this is it.
