The Town Square is the historical center of the town, with views to numerous historical buildings. The square has been designed as a modern urban space focussing on the buzz of the town center combined with different activities. The motifs of ring (võru - 'ring' in Estonian) have been used in the architectural planning and the use of urban furniture (architect Villem Tomiste).

The Town Hall was built in 1865 and its high half-hipped roof, skylights and turrets make it one of the most outstanding examples of historicist architecture in Estonia. There is a memorial tablet to Johannes Martson, who was the mayor from 1902 to 1917, in the foyer of the Town Hall.Interesting facts:* Johannes was the first Estonian mayor in Estonia and his wax figure can be seen in Valga Museum;* Valga Tourist Information Centre is located in the Town Hall.

The Rakvere Secondary School building on Freedom Square is one of the best examples of functional school architecture and the pre-war work of architect Alar Kotli, who studied here. The building was constructed between 1936 and 1938. One of the most impressive rooms in the school is its hall, which is adorned by a traditional dark timber ceiling and chandeliers. The building can be viewed from the outside, while the hall can be accessed during school concerts.Did you know...? - This is one of the first schools in Estonia to have had a separate hall and gymnasium- A number of famous Estonians have studied here, including world-renowned composer Arvo Part, who graduated in 1954

The first written record of Vihula manor in Lahemaa National Park dates back to 1501. At the time it belonged to the Danish baron Hans von Lode. The manor was damaged by fire during the Great Northern War, after which it was purchased by the Wekebros, who bequeathed it to their daughter's family, the von Helffreichs. In 1810 it was purchased in turn by Alexander von Schubert. The manor you see today at Vihula was built during the era of the von Schuberts, between 1820 and 1880. It has since been fully restored and renovated, and now houses a fine restaurant and luxury spa hotel. It hosts concerts, conferences, weddings and other receptions.Did you know...?- Visitors are welcome to wander the grounds and admire the views of the manor
Of the few rooms we could visit, the manor house is very appealing. We enjoyed the out buildings much more, as they shared a unique history, such as the gristmill and the garage with beautifully resorted vintage cars. Lovely grounds to walk and see the outbuildings.

Mooste manor which lies on the shore of Lake Mooste has been established at the time when the Nolcken family ruled in the area; it is one of the manors in Estonia that has preserved its rich building ensemble. The spectacular manor ensemble was built in the historicist style. The interior of the manor includes a large hall with a gallery reaching through two floors. An English landscape park surrounding the manor adds up to its overall impression. All the alleys lead to Lake Mooste offering a picturesque view on it. There is a school operating in the main building and a flax room and a guest house in the former woodwork house.
We paid for a guided tour of the full manor complex. Heard about the history and saw all the cool stuff that is happening there nowadays. In the manor there is a lot of interesting workshops - building and handcraft related - all actually working not just for a display. Very cool and fun 1 and half hour walk with a lovely local guide.
