Top 10 Architectural Buildings in Colorado, United States

November 24, 2021 Esmeralda Fenner

Colorado is home to no less than twenty-six ski resorts such as those in Vail and Breckenridge; other winter activities include snowboarding, sledding, sleigh rides, snow hiking and snowmobiling. The state is blessed with national parks, grasslands and forests where in warmer weather you can enjoy hiking, mountain biking or rock climbing. Wildlife abounds, from bears to moose and raccoons to wolverines. More interested in local history? Head for either the Ute Indian Museum or the Koshare Indian Museum, and don't miss the forts such as Fort Garland and Bent's Old Fort. For a complete change, why not take a ride in a hot air balloon from South Park Valley or Boulder and admire Colorado's picturesque landscape from above?

Bishop Castle

Reviewed By gregsf11 - San Francisco, United States

Well you certainly won't find this in any brochure! In fact, the authorities are doing their best to shut this operation down, as all the anti-government signage attests to. But yet Jim Bishop is still at it, building his beautiful, crazy castle as he has been for decades. And it is crazy. The pictures really don't capture the feel of it. You're going up those wrought iron steps with no real railing and plenty of opportunity to fall from a ridiculous height. The thing is shaking a little bit with every step, and you think, "This should be placed high in the Pantheon Of Very Bad Ideas." In other words: definitely go now, before someone dies and they shut him down!

Make reservations first! Tables are spaced out. Flights of beer are great and so is the Beer Can Chicken, Beer Gouda soup, Fish n Chips, and Lemon Tabasco Chicken, and the bread pudding and other dessert. Large photo on wall of the Phantom Canyon. Great service from our female waiter on Thurs as she quickly brought be some soup and toast due to dropping blood sugar. They also sell t-shirts etc. Wheelchair accessible with parking across the street in a pay lot but also free street parking. Highly recommend this establishment for a fun evening with good beer and food! :)

Steamboat Art Museum

SAM is the only fine art museum in Northwest Colorado. Housed in the iconic First National Bank / Rehder Building (1905/1920) on the National Registry of Historic Places, the museum is located in the heart of Steamboat’s Creative District and the Historic Downtown District. Established in 2006, the museum has developed a strong national reputation presenting original artwork by living masters whose work is relevant to the culture and heritage of the West. The recent 5,000-square-foot rehabilitation pays tribute to the building’s rich history with exposed beams, stained glass and refurbished locally quarried stone walls. This provides an exquisite setting for its rotating exhibitions, including retrospective exhibitions and group shows. Three exhibitions are presented yearly, December - April, May - September, with the annual Steamboat Art Museum Plein Air Event and Exhibit from late September through October each year. Admission is free, donations are welcome.
