Top 10 Archaeology Tours in Rhodes Town, South Aegean

March 29, 2022 Roger Rusk

The largest of the twelve Dodecanese islands on the Aegean's eastern edge, Rhodes is also its most popular. The well-preserved medieval city of Rhodes sits at the north of the island of the same name. High rise hotels line the northern and eastern coastlines. Small villages and resorts dot the island's other shores. Whether your interests are beaches, bars or ancient sites, Rhodes offers an abundance of all three. Authentic Greece can be found in the hilly interior of the 50-mile long island.

Seven Springs was a challenging walk / scramble from the coach, not good for anyone not closely related to a mountain goat, but the springs are pretty. The tunnel to the (man made) waterfall is so narrow that I had to turn my shoulders, and the water deeper than predicted so I got a wet undercarriage. The waterfall not so impressive. Lindos is glorious and worth the walk from the bus drop off at the top of the hill - though it is worth knowing that a shuttle bus runs between the car park and the square in the village for 50 cents each way. The narrow streets are full of things to see and plenty of choice of food and drink places, many on upper terraces with good views. We found prices on a par with other places on the island, no premium for the attractiveness of the village. No guide on our excursion, but a knowledgeable driver with good English who was extremely helpful. Good value excursion.

We booked the private trip to Lindos directly with the company which was a shot walk from the hotel. Wow, what a day - absolutely recommend! The air conditioned mini van was very high quality which made for a really comfortable trip on the hottest day of our holiday. It was who Manos made this excursion so great, his knowledge of the history of the island was really interesting and his passion for Rhodes was clear! We went to Lindos first and were able to stop on the way for some great photo opportunities. We had a good 3 hours in Lindos do wander round and choose what we wanted to do. On the way back we asked if we could stop somewhere different as we had visited Rhodes old town often on our own. Manos took us to Ostria Beach which was just lovely, we stopped at a little bar and had cocktails, the perfect way to spend a sunny Sunday. We all had a great day and have no hesitation recommending the company. When we come back to Rhodes, and we will, we will absolutely book more trips with Manosgoing!

I booked a short private tour with George, it was an incredible experience! He showed me all the must-see landmarks and some hidden jewels in the island. Besides, his restaurant recommendations were brilliant. In Rhodes it’s really easy to end up in tourist traps, but thanks to George I felt like a local. If you want to really discover Rhodes, this is the right agency!

firstly the day trip stopped here after an hours coiach journey - bus air conditioned and everyone masked up. you stop at the bootom of the hill upto the 7 springs, what they dont really tell you that its like an assault course to get there. a windy path leads up towards the reastaurant , through heavily wooded areas and rocky paths, around trees growing over the path whic you have go under/round and there is a drop of about 50ft.. you get there and then there is 2 ways to the springs, one thorugh a underground tunnel which gets narrower and water upto your thighs or an army assault course, very rocky uneven surfaces. so if you are unsteady on your feet or claustropbic- avoid.very lovely surroundings though. after a 30 minute continuation by coach we arrive at lindos village - a lovely little sugar cube village with the acropolis at the top, 2 ways up to the acropolis a 25 min walk or a donkey ride.. oh and there is also a 12 euro charge which they dont tell you about. plenty of shops/restaurants to choose from all vying for your euros, again very lovely place to see.
