Fès-Boulemane (Arabic: فاس بولمان (Ǧihâtu Fās - Būlmān)) was formerly one of the sixteen regions of Morocco from 1997 to 2015. It was situated in northern Morocco. It covered an area of 19,795 km² and had a population of 1,808,295 (2014 census). The capital was Fès. In 2015, it expanded Taounate and Taza Provinces (formerly from the Taza-Al Hoceima-Taounate Region); and Meknès Prefecture and El Hajeb and Ifrane Provinces (formerly from the Meknès-Tafilalet Region) to form the Region of Fès-Meknès.

The day trip to the Roman Ruins and Meknes, is the perfect escape from the busier Medina of Fes. And it is a good trip to experience the rolling countryside, Middle Atlas mountains, fields of grazing sheep, olive groves and the vineyards that surround Fès.

I don't even know where to start describing that day. Yes, it was a full day experience. Not the 3.5h listed in the description. Khalid met us at our hotel, and right there on the spot, we knew we made the right choice with this tour. I wish I had much more space here to describe our day. He took us all over town, some places where we would not go by ourselves, and some places where we would barely fit ;). He had many great discussions about culture, food, religion and the country as a whole. He arranged for us to have lunch at his parents house. Despite his family not being too well off, we felt very welcomed and had a nice family time. Sure it included all the commercial spots where you are "expected" to buy things, and buy things we did :), but we really enjoyed everything we bought and every moment and memory we made and got to take away with us. Khalid also arranged for us to get to the bus station to get tix to our next destination and for the transportation to pick us up and get to the bus station in the morning. This day spent with Khalid touring Fez was truly one of the highlights of our Moroccan vacation.

We had the chance to visit amazing landscapes and they gave us the chance to interact with locals. The perfect end to our trip was the cedar forest where we enjoyed the nature together with monkeys. We had the chance to visit amazing landscapes and they gave us the chance to interact with locals. The perfect end to our trip was the cedar forest where we enjoyed the nature together with monkeys. Amazing trip! The drive is extremely long, but weirdly doesn’t feel too long as you have a number of stops along the way. Our driver out was quiet the whole way, but on the way back our new driver gave us so many interesting facts and insight as we went. Camel riding - ouch! But definitely one worth ticking off the bucket list. Great dinner in the evening too!

A must when in Fez, our tour guide spoke English well and explained every part of the medina with passion , also great opportunities to buy local crafts , clothing and experience the craftsman in the Midina, leather tannery in action. Be aware of prices upfront before committing to buy and be firm and clear when not interested to buy :-)
