The shrines and temples of Kyoto offer a rare link between modern life in the city and its very ancient past. The Shimogamo Shrine dates to the 6th century and seems suspended in time, its serenity and spiritual power still palpable. Visit Fushimi Inari Shrine, then see the life-sized Thousand Armed Kannon statues of Sanjūsangen-dō. Enjoy traditional geisha performances, then savor a tranquil meal at a restaurant overlooking the Kamo River.

We were on our way back from the crowded streets near the Kiyomizu Shrine when we saw some kimonos outside a quiet little shop on the back roads. It was different from any of the other shops, odd things at crazy good prices ( bought a vintage kimono for 20 US dollars.) Inside the shop was a tiny wonderland of old things, from prints on the ceiling, to dolls, jewelry, books, pottery, masks, you name it. We did 90% of all our gift and souvenir shopping here. But we both are artists with a pension for the old and weird. Great place!

A small shop located in the alley of Gion. Things collected by owner, who traveled abroad, speaking fluent in English and Chinese. Main items are from Japan such as clothes, accessories, shoes and etc. to display and sell. It mixes in a good sense for whole well being together. Good spot to come and take a break during sightseeing.
