Beautiful ancient monastery in the jungle. Built by Buddhist monks between the 4th and 8th Centuries Lovely to explore Get the site guardian to give you a tour if you can. He is very knowledgeable

This was our first visit to cave temples they a stunning with the wall and ceiling paintings . For a small donation your name will be broadcasted over the temple , the view is beautiful you will be greeted by monkeys

Our guide took us here as part of a cultural triangle tour - medieval capital of Sri lanka - wonderful history going back 1000 years and very well presented - the history is quite superb and whilst it is quite spread (so allow plenty of time) it is well worth a long visit - ignore traders who approach you - as others have said not too busy
