The ruins of this third-century city are 90 miles from Shiraz.

Bishapur was an ancient city in Sasanid era. The road linked the Sassanid capitals Estakhr (very close to Persepolis) and Ctesiphon. It is located south of Shiraz. There are lots of structures there from Sasanid to Ilkhanid Era. The most beautiful and important part of the city is Anahita temple which is figure as the divinity of the Waters and hence associated with fertility, healing and wisdom Try to go there with a local guide who they explain completely about history of this amazing ancient city.

Arg-e Bam

This citadel town was inhabited from the third century to the late 19th century. The 2003 Earthquake in Bam destroyed more than 80 percent of the Citadel.

I heard that Lonely Planet somehow excluded this place from the book and now some people even do not know this ruin but when you visit the south area of Iran, this place is one of the MUST-VISIT place. I do not know how it was like before the big earthquake destroyed here but even after the earthquake, it is magnificent to walk round the old city.. nostalsic and romantic. Especially if you go close to sunset you can havea beautiful castle, houses, ruins with dramatic shades of the sun! My recommendation is visit there after a bit long lunch, arriving around 3 or 4 in the afternoon.

Towers of silence

Reviewed By mjomidi - Tehran, Iran

Prayers for the departed form an important part of Zoroastrian ritual. Soon after the spirit has left, the body is regarded as impure, so it is bathed and dressed in white cotton garments. At the time appointed, the corpse has to be carried into the Tower. The Towers of Silence, being open at the top, give free access to birds of prey. Zoroastrianism regards the Soul as infinitely the more important.
