Casa de la Fortuna

The Fortuna House will take you to the domestic environment of the Roman Cartagena during the first century. The different rooms that formed the house, the dining room where the family celebrated the banquets, the salon in which the lord of the house received his visitors or to the bedrooms and private part of the house. Their objects of personal adornment, chandeliers, dishes, among others, will help you understand the fashions and customs of the time. At the same time, you will be able to admire the beauty of its murals and mosaics with a variety of reasons such as the Swan - image of the house -, swastikas, flowers or pomegranates. All laden with a great mythological symbolism.

Although built over by other buildings, this archeological site does give a good understanding of how this modest house was accessed from the street and designed and lived in. The displays are informative and give more detail than the larger scale remains in the Roman Forum site. Only requires a short visit - under an hour - and well worth the €2.50 entrance charge.

Near the center of this wonderful city close to the old Roman coliseum is a structure covering excavations and restoration of a large section of the ancient city. The tour takes you on several levels to view various “digs”. There are numerous plaques in various languages describing what has been unearthed. The site can be compared with Pompeii. Take advantage of this opportunity to see ancient history.

Catedral de Santa Maria La Mayor

The ruins of an ancient Christian Church. You can explore with the Roman amphitheatre.

Reviewed By Mojaquera - Mojacar, Spain

There is hardly anything above ground left except what you can see from up in the amphitheater, BUT...if you go into the Roman Theater Museum, part of the walk-through goes through the underground areas of the former cathedral with some really interesting information along the way and some rather spooky areas. The whole thing is very well explained in a video about the area. From here, you can go up about 6 escalators to come out at the top of the amphitheater. Great visit.
