What is a gastro pub?â Gastronomy is the study of preparing and consuming food. A pub is a neighborhood spot for affordable food and good times. When you combine the two you get a neighborhood spot with a focus on food prepared from scratch with fresh ing
We stopped here for an early dinner and ended up doing Happy Hour with Chicken and Waffles, a large Salad with Chicken, Shrimp Tacos, and a Burger. Each dish was very well prepared and the price was right especially for the Happy Hour Specials. There were quite a large group for a Thursday night and we really enjoyed the food. Bryce was our waiter and he was excellent!!!

We were celebrating my sonâs birthday and really wanted a good breakfast to begin our culinary celebration. We got what we were looking for. The Lobster Benedict was full of delicious lobster and the Benedict sauce fresh and savory. The Bloody Maryâs were spicy and very flavorful! Loved every dish and we will be back!

I have been here before and was excited to take my husband who is not a fan of IHOP in Augusta. He was as impressed as I am once he tried it. The food, service and atmosphere cannot be beat. Itâs is the nicest and most welcoming place you can eat in the Portland area!

I recently stayed at the hotel and didn't have time to find a place to eat. The smoked seafood chowder was great. If you like creamy seafood chowders this is a must have. You will not be disappointed. I also had the pizza and really enjoyed it. Normally I wouldn't recommend getting pizza in Maine but this was actually very good. Although, I do wish I tried the lobster roll...will need to be next time. The service was great and I highly recommend giving this place a try.

The Bear bustled on a mid-summer weekend. Parking was curbside. After only a brief wait, we got a cozy four-person booth instead of a table or bar-side. Lighting was dim, but not at all romantic. We got good service, not great. Our table had full condiments, beer lists, drink lists, and menus. The beer list alone had 80 choices, most brewed in New England. From a wide-ranging menu, we chose haddock and burger plates. Burger was served naked, except for its blue cheese dressing â a disappointment. It was dry, not juicy â also a disappointment. Haddock came with coleslaw as a dressing, not as a side dish â a surprise. Our sides of fries were fast-fried slabs of potato â also a surprise. By contrast, our drinks were just what weâd hoped theyâd be. We enjoyed the Bearâs unique, laid-back, hip atmosphere, its whimsical décor, and its amazingly varied drinking options. We'll be back again someday.

We eat here occasionally (and would come more often if they took reservations), and it is always better than good. This week it was excellent. My last review mentioned that the starters were skimpy, and that has been remedied. We had an octopus dish which was terrific as usual (I mentioned last time that Isa is amazing with octopus) and an excellent quesadilla as starters. I usually avoid ordering spaghetti bolognese since it is too often a see of indifferent tomato sauce over gummy noodles. At Isa, the noodles seem house-made and the balance with the sauce is perfect -- enough to moisten and flavor the noodles but not to be the only taste experience in the dish. A rabbit pasta dish was similarly excellent.I had mistakenly developed a sense that the menu here did not change much. What I have realized is that the categories stay pretty much the same but the preparations differ. The octopus once again had chick peas, but the dish was different than the last time, and the rabbit pasta was also a new approach. Also noteworthy are the craft cocktails. The two that we tried were outstanding -- creative but not showy. One I will replicate at home since I liked it so much (mezcal with lime and Dolin's sweet white vermouth). This place is consistently good, and more attractively priced than most of the better Portland restaurants. We always enjoy coming here, but only do so when we feel open to dining early enough to be sure of being able to get a table. The low mark for service ws unusual, by the way. Our server was new, and brought one incorrect entree. The restaurant's response was thoughtful and we were appreciative. They seemed to be down a served this particular night, and the small staff were working hard. Poor service has not been our problem here in the past and will not deter us from returning in the future.

Based on our visit here 18 months ago, we were looking forward to dinner at Back Bay Grill. We were disappointed by the food and the service. Our mains arrived 50 minutes after our starters and several dishes were cold. When a server puts a plate in front of you clutching it in a napkin, you think âhot plateâ. When itâs actually cold, you think âfood theatreâ. Even the coffee was served at room temperature. This was a weeknight. No unusual crowd. Whatâs up?

Serving Breakfast and Lunch all day. We also have a large meeting room with free WiFi and large screen TV for Business Meetings or Celebrations. Extensive menu with many unique items.
We ordered take-out from The Egg & I this morning for breakfast. The food was greasy, and the bacon was salty. And the scrambled eggs? We were surprised that Denny's makes better ones. Also, we are an environmentalist family and were appalled to see the styrofoam boxes the food came in - most places have switched to paper, but this one hasnât.But there were sone good things too. The Tuscan Scramble was pretty good, and so was the Garden Frittata. I guess that if we had eaten at the restaurant (versus take-out, which is what we did), we would have liked it more - some of the good reviews mention good service. But then again, some mention bad service. In summary, if you're really willing to experiment, go ahead. But we still don't recommend this place, nuh-uh.Thanks for your recent visit and for this feedback. We appreciate your comments regarding your to-go experience. We have shared your feedback with the team, and we do hope you will give us another chance in the future to WOW you.

Serving brunch 7 days a week. Most of the menu is offered with gluten free options which are cooked on different cooking surfaces. We have a full liquor license.
While driving through Portland we stumbled upon this small restaurant which served an awesome brunch. We didn't have reservations as it was a last minute stop and was told it would be 20-30 mins. We no more then ventured up the road and were told they had a table ready for us. The service was great and food was delicious with that homemade- grandma's secret recipes type of taste. The tables had paper on them so you could doodle while you wait for your breakfast and some of the best pieces of art was taped all over the walls. Overall we had a great experience and would highly recommend, but reservations are probably best.

Will return. This restaurant is at the Press Hotel - if you like old typewriters which it has many in their lobby, then do make a bathroom trip. The decoration of the restaurant is simple and woody. The serving staff are efficient and professional. They serve their oysters with cocktail pearls - nice touch. The scallops entree is heavenly good: succulent, lively and tasty, it's bit salty but you still can taste the sweetness. The Bangs Island mussels (house green curry, lemongrass, lime leaf, chili - oh my ... ) is served with a warm baguette - oui - is excellent too. Both entrees are on the salty side, which fit my palate, -:)When we ask for bill, are told is paid for it. The restaurant is relatively empty because we got there a little after 5. When we press the staff, does he reveal is the next table, with two ladies. After a little debate, I walk over and thanked them. The younger one is a little surprised but the older lady said, "you're welcome. I never forget a beautiful face... have we met somewhere?"She does look like a relative I had, grandaunt Lucy. Although Lucy was Chinese but their similarity lie in the way they present themselves: starting from nicely coiffed hair down to matching earrings, not to mention the makeup. On the second thought, she does look like my editor and a good friend Lynda. But I don't think we've met and I told her so. Maybe we've met but I'm senile ...In any case, thank you lady, you made my day. Hope we'll meet one day, somewhere.
