Best barbecue I have ever had in the City of Albuquerque. The one on 4th Street has a lot better quality food and atmosphere then the one on Central.

Amazing that more folks don’t review this excellent place for salads and outstanding food. Today my nephew and I visited and we agreed this place has great food, beer and we couldn’t have asked for a better server/bartender, think her name might have been Tammie or Sammy. She provided us with great service with a warm kind smile. We look forward to returning very soon.. Thank You Canteen Taproom!

I'm traveling on Route 66 by bicycle so driving long distances to find breakfast is not an option. I stayed the night at a local campground and stopped here for breakfast. The breakfast burrito was excellent. And the coffee was hot and very flavorful. I highly recommend this out of the way place.

Late evening, best green chile cheeseburgers I've ever had, and I've had a lot. Best is the small bowl of beans and green chile served with yor meal. Please make them larger. Jukeboxes on the table with oldies music, a fabulous experience. Staff is friendly and attentive. Thank you

Ponderosa Family Restaurant & Grill

Homemade comfort food in a beautiful mountain community. A place to get great food and service just outside the city.

1. My wife and I came upon the Ponderosa while exploring the area between Albuquerque and the beautiful Salinas Mission Churches.2. We were greeted at the door by a fantastic hostess, who we immediately dubbed 'The Hostess with the Mostest!' Absolutely cool lady with a great smile, a stunning character who really took care of us the whole time we were there.3. The menu has lots of options for every taste, and we thought the prices were more than reasonable. a. I had the fish and chips which were excellent. I would also note that the French Fries must be home made because they were absolutely stunning. b. My wife had a beautiful salad that had a gorgeous presentation. It is obvious that the chef is someone who takes real pride in his work and has been professionally trained. My wife loved the salad. c. We found the portions to be generous.4. During our meal the hostess came over to be sure all was well; and the owner even came over to say hi and check on everything. BTW, he is a real gentleman and very polite. He is low key but is definitely working hard to make sure all customers have a perfect experience. And we did.5. Ambience: This is not one of those noisy, stale, warehouse kind of restaurants with no atmosphere. The Ponderosa is great with all kinds of Southwest items on the walls. For example, we had a beautiful old cowboy guitar hanging just above our heads, and there was Western movie music playing softly in the background.6. The restaurant also has beautiful, freshly baked desserts to have in the restaurant or to take home. We had some fresh baked cookies and they were 'to die for.'7. The restaurant has a beautiful and inviting old 'Western saloon-style' bar that would be great to sit at with your friends.8. Bottom Line: a. We really enjoyed our experience here. The food, the staff, the menu, the location were all fantastic. b. This is a great place for a family outing, a business outing, a place for all those mountain and road bikers in the area, anyone passing by. And it's close enough to Albuquerque that it's worth the ride. c. Thanks to the great staff at The Ponderosa who really made us feel welcome. We will definitely be back.

Though I've eaten here before and haven't always been thrilled with my selection, a huge group of us were there last Thursday and this time I tried one of their burgers. It was tender, juicy, succulent, and cooked perfectly. I had blue cheese and bacon on mine and I can honestly say that the only thing I might have added, but they don't offer, is maybe some garlic aioli. We will definitely be going there again for a burger very soon! The service was excellent, especially considering there were about 35 or more of us that day!

Friendly cashier took our order, repeating it back to us to be sure it was correct. It was! Our server was polite and efficient. A very nice young man. The "tots" liked their tot burgers, and the adults liked their burgers too - tasty! Two of us thought they were a little over cooked - the juices were pressed out of them. French fries were crispy, and chips were crunchy. We were there around 1PM and it was busy. It was getting busier when we left at 1:45PM. Locals know this is a better burger place. We'll be back, too!
