Food is excellent. The shrimp and grits can only be gotten here. They fry the fish and shrimp perfectly. Not greasy and not over cooked. The grits are always creamy. The restaurant is a little dark inside and hasn't been changed too much since it opened but it is clean.

Beaver House Restaurant

Reviewed By PMMarion

Even though I have lived in the area for 36 years I had never eaten at Beaver House. There is no particular reason for this, just that the stars never seemed to properly align. Thankfully this was remedied recently with one of the most enjoyable lunch experiences in recent memory. For starters I love the location...not so much the street address rather the old home that has housed this business for decades. I also like the fact that even though this is basically country family style dining you are eating on white tablecloths and drinking from actual glassware instead of plastic...just makes it nicer. The service was both timely and courteous. Then the food...really good. Nothing really fancy, just good southern cooking with some of the best fried chicken I have had since grandma passed away. Now for the best part...you get all of that for less than 10$ per person...can’t beat it. I am sorry it took me 36 years to finally eat here...will make it a regular stop.

We rolled into town late Sunday night,9pm, for Southern's SOAR on Monday morning. Only a handful of places that were not fast food were open and we were alreasy quite familiar with Mellow Mishroon, so we chose this location. The service was good, the pizza was, as always, excellent, and we loved the option of having "happy hour" prices on the pretzels. We will definitely stop again when we are back for move in weekend!

The SmoQue Pit

As I often do, I visited the Smoque Pit based on TA reviews. It was a clear, cool (almost) spring day - a nice day for a drive so I went the 60 miles from Savannah to Statesboro. I ordered the Brisket Plate. The sides (Brunswick Stew and baked beans) were very good but the brisket was the best I ever had. At the owners suggestion, I tried the sauce. It was great. The servers (GSU students) were terrific: friendly and efficient.

Del Sur Taqueria & Cantina

We were excited to try this place after the football game and arrived Saturday night around 9:30. We were seated outside where several tables were empty, however a few were occupied and either eating or finishing up and watching games on the multiple screens. We waited and waited (and waited) for a server and finally had to flag down the hostess after 10+ minutes of no acknowledgement. A few minutes later a waitress came by and told us she would be with us in a few minutes. She walked two tables over and proceeded to sit down and start chatting with what appeared to be her friends. We looked at each other dumbfounded and decided to take our business elsewhere. I’m willing to give a restaurant a pass on a busy night, but at this hour things were slow and there was no excuse for the lack of service we received. Good luck staying in business treating your customers like an afterthought. Thank you very much for your review. We are sorry to hear you received such poor service at our restaurant. Like any the business, we pride ourselves in customer service and overall experience. The experience you had is almost as bad as it gets in our book. There is not excuse for what happened, even at the end of a busy day. In result of this review we have a staff meeting scheduled for tomorrow evening to reiterate some basic restaurant etiquette and go over policies to try and ensure this never happens again. Im not sure if we are supposed to do this, but if you'd like to reach out to one of our owners personally, he would like to rectify the situation with a meal on us. We would love for you to give us another shot and let us know what you think. 678-943-5368

Had a quick supper at this McAlister's and it was good. I had the French Dip sandwich which had plenty of meat, cheese, and Au jus. The bread was a little too hard for my liking and I ended up cutting off pieces before dipping rather than dipping the sandwich first and then trying to rip off a bite with my teeth. The bread although soft was still chewy. Also had some potato soup and it was very tasty. My wife enjoyed the Savannah salad.

The Boiling Shrimp

We evacuated to Statesboro from Hilton Head Island during Hurricane Dorian. We live in our motor coach and stayed at Parkwood RV Park. Different friends who also stayed in Statesboro recommended The Boiling Shrimp. The location could have not been more convenient; it was an easy five-minute walk to the restaurant through the park. I called in for take out twice during our one-week stay in Statesboro. The waitstaff answered the phone right away and our orders were ready in 10-15 minutes. Both Madison and Kaitlyn were helpful, kind and knowledgeable about the menu items. We ordered the Grilled Shrimp (16 shrimp on 4 skewers); Grilled Salmon and Seafood Gumbo with extra rice served in a separate container. The entrees come with a side of Cajun rice and veggies and your choice of Garlic Butter, Cajun or Lemon Pepper. I chose the Garlic Butter. The Seafood Gumbo was so good, we ordered it a second time. On that order, I was offered the option of extra shrimp for $.50. The shrimp and salmon were generously portioned and we couldn't eat it all at once. The leftovers were just as delicious. The orders were ready when promised and put in a cute takeout bag. A menu was placed in each bag. Cars always filled the parking lot; the restaurant opens at 11:00. Online ordering is available. "We proudly offers dine-in, take out and catering."If we ever have to evacuate again, The Boiling Shrimp will get our regular business.

We've eaten here several times over the last ten years or so and it was usually pretty good. But it seems to have taken a turn for the worse lately. Several menu items have been removed (ravioli, the truffle mashed potatoes, crab cake entree) that were our favorites. Service was slow. Food quality was mediocre at best. The fried shrimp dinner my husband always gets now only comes with fries instead of fries and slaw and then they forgot to bring the fries! Shrimp were tough. Some of the food was cold. My shrimp and grits was really tasty at first and I was impressed but as I kept eating it I began to be overwhelmed by the saltiness of the seasoning. By the end of the meal, I felt sick at my stomach and actually had to run to the bathroom. I don't think it's that the food was unsafe or anything, but it was so overly salted it made me sick, like when you swallow a bunch of seawater. My granddaughter's kid's hamburger was so small, like a slider, and came with nothing on it but meat. The restaurant also needs renovating badly. Booth seats are ripped, everything seemed dirty. Don't think we'll be back for a while unless things change.

The shrimp and grits entree at the normal price here is a bargain - only $10.75. But on Tuesdays, it drops to only $7! And it's good shrimp and grits, too. Bacon, sausage, and a generous portion of shrimp on top. The grits are creamy, not grainy. And there's just the right amount of seasoning to give it plenty of flavor without scorching your throat. The good food and low prices attract college students from adjacent Georgia Southern. It was packed the Saturday night we were there because of Parents Weekend. Despite that, our food was to the table in 15 minutes. Someone is running an efficient operation here!It is loud on a weekend night or if there is a game on. Don't plan to come here for a romantic quiet dinner or business meeting unless you do it on a weekday or week night.
