As apparently many Americans found, it was almost impossible to watch the women's World Cup finale. Our rental did not have TV so we went up to the Newport Country club and asked if they would show the event Sunday. The manager, Chris, was incredible. He said "we do not open that early but I will leave the remote controls for the dining room TV out for you...and he did. We watched the match, ate very good pub food, had a breath-taking view of the lake and Canada, were treated as friends by all the locals.Went back and watched the Open there too.

Newport is definitely coming into its own, slowly, but still coming around. With choices increasing monthly, my friend and I try Brown Dog. The space is very comfortable and a great concept for dining in Newport. An open air farmer's market feel, friendly staff encouraging tastings around every corner. The Bistro itself has a great feeling and vibe with old chairs from a bygone era, great lighting, tableware and menu. The food is great, fresh and locally sourced. The only hiccup in our dining experience was our server. He looked as though he recently got out of bed, forgot some basic personal hygiene habits and picked the cleanest shirt from his floor, which was not clean. He wasn't very attentive, we would have had another cider, but he was busy talking with the chefs. Our server notwithstanding, the food, ambiance and overall feel of the Brown Dog Bistro is worth a visit.

I really enjoy this place: local products cooked in a simple "diner-style" environment. The are excellent, terrific mac & cheese. The friend fries are well into "best ever" territory. A small but excellent selection of VT beers and ciders. There's an adjacent store with many of the local products for sale: cider, maple syrup, cheeses, and so on. This is one of my go-to places when I'm in the NEK.

Stopped on way to Quebec City . Located in center of town. Great breakfast & lunch choices. Home made breads. Wife had grilled cheese sandwich and fries. I had veggie omelette with home made rye bread. Food was excellent! Service was excellent! Would certainly return and highly recommend.

We had excellent timing to arrive in Newport, VT for Burger Monday at The Newport Ciderhouse Bar and Grill. Basically, Burger Monday is a $2 discount on their 8-ounce burgers. My lovely wife had the Green Mountain burger with apple chutney, bacon, cheddar cheese, maple, spinach, and a side of fries and garlic aioli. I had the Whiskey burger with cheddar cheese, sautéed onions, peppers, mushrooms, whiskey sauce and a side of fries. The burgers were great and cooked as requested. The fries were crisp and hot. We added two blueberry sodas from The Maine Root Company for that authentic feel. The meal, tax, and tip were less than $40 for the two of us.The restaurant is located in the Northeast Kingdom Tasting Center. After your meal, you can walk about the center and sample other Vermont products and delicacies. We enjoyed our lunch and would be happy to stop in again and try some of the other items on the menu.

Stopped in for dinner on a Saturday night around 6pm. Seated ourselves in the small dining area. Hubby's Rodeo burger was big and delicious. Accompanying fries were good. Went with the Flatbread special. Very good. Big portions. Friendly service. We left as the live music was starting - a duo whose warm-ups sounded good. Very reasonable prices. Saw a few other meals that looked great. Would revisit if in the area again.

Famous for it's hearty comfort food, the East Side offers fine dining on the shores of beautiful Lake Memphremagog. When you're traveling, nothing hits the spot better than a homemade buttermilk biscuit with chicken, gravy, real mashed potatoes and cranbe
Upon entering the restaurant, there was a really bad overall smell in the restaurant, but we got passed that and decided to give it a try because the setting is so beautiful, We ordered the chicken biscuits and gravy. They brought us glasses of water and we had to send back my wifeâs glass because it still had lipstick from previous user on it .The meal took about 55 minutes to arrive from the time we ordered and not once did somebody come to see us to let us know was going on. The plates were dirty too . My glass had crust on it . Our chicken plate was cold and soggy . Overall terrible experience. All 4 of us left our chicken plates untouched for how bad it was. I never write bad reviews but I feel like I was robbed 120$ .

We stopped based on TripAdvisor reviews and lakeside location. It did not disappoint, quite to the contrary we were delighted that it exceeded our expectations. Breads were spectacular. Cheese Board was an exceptional flight of local cheeses. The Escargot Provençal are something completely different to tease your palate and wonder how to make at home. It is loaded with good stuff, no spoilers. Rack of Lamb delicious but on the small side for the price. Andouille Pasta to die for. Mussels Frites in beer and garlic are as expected made in their sauce and it makes a big difference on the mussels. Wine list was extensive and great selections and suggestions. Special Veal was great. KGB coffee really nice. Last but not least was the fabulous service.
