I happened upon the Smokehouse after hearing about it from friends. So, I took my wife on a chilly weeknight. This is one small tavern to say the least. But, the minute you walk through the door, you feel welcome. The owner, Debbie, is there to greet you most nights and she is proud of what she does. The smoker is in front of the restaurant and it does the trick. I had the smoked sausage sandwich and the flavor hit your tongue on the first bite. It was magnificent. My wife tried the porky pig and it too was tasty. She did say the bottom of the roll fell apart from the juice. Might try to eat it upside down next time. There was a good beer selection on tap for us as well. It is cozy with three booths and a bar. Nicely decorated in a western theme. I will be back.

Appleseed Restaurant

Sunday evening we decided to take a ride and go to the Appleseed Inn for dinner. Place was fairly busy, but not packed. We both just had a ice water and they brought a dish of crackers and warm cheese. My wife ordered the Appleseed Chicken dish which comes with choice of starch and vegetable and the salad bar. I had the 8 ounce beef medallions which came with the above sides and salad bar. I love their salad bar, one of the few places around that still has one, where you can pick and choose your own ingredients. Everything was beyond yummy and my beef dish was cooked perfectly. Mashed potatoes were excellent. We did not have room for dessert. Very happy with our meals and the waitress was Sarita, who was very attentive and friendly.

BRAVO to their entire team. It's nice when professionals care! Thanks Nigel,Welcome to New London and thanks for finding us at Oak & Grain. It is always a high compliment when folks of discerning taste find us and enjoy what we are doing. Chef and Jessica, and our whole team certainly put their heart and soul into the experience we provide for our guests, and it's certainly nice to hear how appreciated the result is. Fenton's Landing

We grabbed lunch here before a cruise on the lake. Their pastrami sandwich was superb--the leanest, yet tender pastrami I ever had, with a generous topping of grilled onions, Swiss cheese, and mustard on grilled, fresh rye bread. Companion's Monte Cristo sandwich was topped with melted cheese that strung out when she tried to bite into it. One thing we liked about this little eatery--you can choose an individual beer from the cooler and consume it right there with your meal. This caused a curious situation when we checked out and paid. The lady at the counter asked for my ID. This is quite flattering at my advanced age (I tipped her well!), but what if I had not produced an ID or had been under age? Since I had already consumed the beer, would she compel me to give it back!??!?!

Ziggy's Pizza

Ziggys is the only pizza place between Bradford and Newport. It’s OK. The calzones are doughy with too much greasy cheese filling. I called them heartburn pockets. They have a number of interesting salads, but why they serve them in plastic takeout bowls is beyond me?! Mine was not quite right, but I’ve had worse. You know, boring type lettuce...With a little more effort it could be decent rather than just acceptable.I guess with the tourists around the lake they probably do pretty well so maybe they don’t have to try.I don’t think I would eat there again, I prefer SUNA, just west half a mile.

We had a nice meal here for dinner, but it wasn’t great. One reason is the noise, as the room really amplifies sound, but that was mostly due to a nearby holiday party in full swing. We really couldn’t even talk over dinner though. The food was good - short rib stroganoff, tenderloin tips, and risotto were nice and recommended (nice they have a vegetarian option). The downer was the appetizer - we tried the Gouda tater tots and were shocked that for $9 we got 5 (yes, five) little tots. They were good, but we really didn’t feel good about that - not recommended at all.

Very good food & service. Menu is different/better from Newport Pub menu. Got a "Farmer's" grinder that was great, could've used a lit'l more ingredients on the "bready" grinder roll tho'. lt had chicken/sausage, cheese, mushrooms, peppers & caramelized onions - Mmm. Good beer selection as well. Was there during the week for lunch so easy seating. Restaurant is large, but l'm sure place gets packed at nites & wkends with skiers from Sunapee Mtn. We'll go there more often.

Bubba's Bar & Grille

Reviewed By Kate B

I’ve been getting Bubba’s Reuben sandwiches for a number of years now. They have always been delicious, with numerous slices of fresh corned beef, plenty of sauerkraut, and dressing. Yesterday my husband and I went there for the same. I was absolutely appalled when I received my sandwich. There was less than one slice of corned beef on my whole sandwich. I could count the number of pieces of sauerkraut on my bread, maybe four. I explained to the waitress the kind of Reuben sandwiches we used to get and I asked if there is a new chef, and she said there was. She was very accommodating and said she would go in to see if she could get me more corned beef, but she came back and told us that I would have to pay for more corned beef! I told her I would never return to the restaurant for a Reuben sandwich again and that I was extremely disappointed. The Reuben sandwich was an absolute disgrace on Bubba’s account. I also ordered the spinach salad which I have gotten before and, evidently, Bubba’s is also cutting on its salads because I ended up with a lot less spinach in the salad than I have had in the past. Bubba‘s is now cutting corners everywhere. SO BEWARE!
