Loved, loved, loved it here. We sat outside and it was a beautiful day there.Comfortable seating, a nice, single cheese plate comes with each tasting. I liked that they had a selection of dry, semi-sweet and sweet wines and were generous with the samples.Itâs a great place to enjoy with friends on a sunny afternoon.

We were with our 8-year old granddaughter, and if there's a Culver's nearby, we know that's where we will be having lunch and/or dinner. This was no exception. This particular Culver's is in a location that's currently experiencing a lot of road construction. They are selling t-shirts ($10) that say "Detour - Culver's" Monroe, WI, and in the construction theme, they are orange. If you purchase a shirt, and wear it in during the construction, you get 10% off your order. Of course, I had to buy one for my granddaughter, because no matter where we are -- we detour to Culver's! (And, yes, we went back the next day and got the discount). The employees at this location were some of the friendliest we have seen and they constantly were keeping the dining area clean and coming out to refill coffee cups for those enjoying a cup of coffee. The food, as always, was excellent and our orders were correct.

Great and creative sandwiches, home-made soups, desserts and fresh ice cream! My pick for best lunch date spot. Great for a fresh take-out sandwich, too. Plenty of seating, clean, very reasonable.

This cafe is an institution in Monroe! Nothing fancy, just great comfort food! Only open for breakfast and lunch unfortunately. But it is always good and and you get plenty of it! Breakfast is my favorite! Eggs are always Perfection! You'll bound to hear something interesting, it's where all the locals go. Coffee is good too! Best breakfast in town!

The Ratskeller restaurant is located in a Swiss style building called Turner Hall. Friday night fish fries are popular in Wisconsin and we decided to try one out when driving through the City of Monroe in southern Wisconsin. There were several to choose from, but the Swiss heritage / theme caught our interest. The restaurant has Swiss décor and the evening we stopped a couple was entertaining with German and Swiss music. While we had fish, we observed many other entrees being served. We had one of four fish fry options. The fish was very good along with the salad bar. The sweet potato beer soup is really a specialty.

We stopped at the Laughing Trout while driving through Monroe during the evening dinner period. While dinner entrees appear to be their specialty my wife had a grilled chicken club sandwich and I had a prime rib burger. Both were plentiful and excellent. Nice atmosphere. Very good brandy ole fashions. Prices on the upper end of mid range or lower end of fine dining.

We wanted to see The Square in Monroe and in doing that we noticed several people sitting at tables outside a interesting looking place! It was around lunch time so we decided to check it out! We were greeted immediately and even though they were very busy (which speaks for itself) we were seated within a few minutes. Our waiter, Justin, was so friendly and gave us a little background about Baumgartner's...Wisconsin's oldest cheese store (but is now a tavern and specialty food store as well). The decor was quite colorful as well as interesting! We all noticed the money on the ceiling which, of course, aroused our curiosity. Justin told us that all donations were wrapped in quarters and a tack was attached..then the waiter would toss it up, hoping it would stick! With each successful "stick" a bell rung letting everyone know! We were in...and Justin "nailed" his throws! The best part is that once a year all of the money is taken down and donated to a local charity! Now about the food...I had a bowl of the best lentil soup I've ever tasted and everyone else had sandwiches that they said were wonderful! We also bought some locally brewed beers and a jar of Slimm & Nunne sweet and nicely hot mustard... also made in Wisconsin and so yummy! This place is a MUST DO in Monroe!

This is as small restaurant that packs people in. It has a small bar and you usually have to wait for a table. You can leave your number and they will call when a table opens up.The food is unbelievable. It's a place where other restaurant owners go to ea
Our group of 7 visited mid-afternoon on a Wednesday. Since the restaurant is small, we were hoping there would be enough room for us. We also have lots of vigorous conversation and plenty of laughter and we didn't want to intrude on other folks meals....but we really wanted smoke meat and margaritas. There were actually quite a few people in the restaurant at three in t he afternoon and few at the outside seating. There were 4 staff in the front of the house-more than enough to handle the small room. All were very pleasant and helpful. We ordered a variety of dishes and all were flavorful and fresh. A few of us tried the "Popper" quesadilla and it was great. There was a brisket platter and a couple of brisket sandwiches, a Reuben burritto and some tacos. My Korean tacos were wonderful. Bright and crispy veggies, soft shells and perfectly done pork belly. The only comment my husband had with his brisket sandwich was that the meat was a little dry, but he didn't want to add any of the bbq sauces provided. Meals were presented pretty quickly, so there must have been plenty of staff in the kitchen as well. The restaurant itself is comfortable and bright. A mandatory restroom break showed us spotless, beautifully decorated restrooms. Thanks for the great time everybody!
