The restaurant, formerly known as the Bavarian Inn re-opened in May of 2013. Our restaurant setting has transformed into a beautiful environment where you will enjoy an exquisite food experience with multiple dining room options. Choose to sit on our porc
Lovely restaurant in the north woods of Wisconsin. You get a small appetizer, bread, soup or salad. You pay for an up charge on onion soup to be broiled. It was worth it. Large choice of entrees. Blue gill was a special and it was excellent. Fettuccine side is another excellent choice. Thank you for taking the time to review your experience at Parkside Tavern. We are very happy that you enjoyed your meal.

TA needs to separate the two types of reviews here for clarity. PPM&S is primarily a bar on Co. Hwy. W in 'downtown' Manitowish Waters next to the dam that impounds the lakes that are the centerpiece of the area(walk across the parking lot and you can fish the tailrace of the dam). The bar sits facing the road, while the 2 story motel building sits at a right angle facing the river down over the hill behind the bar(see their website). At $60 a night, this was a deal - not the $250 a night, 2 night minimum for a local condo. The owners obviously care about offering a decent place to stay and renovated this older building into something nice. My missus didn't complain so it must be good. It is clean, simple, and actually the staff service was above average - not what one would expect. The rooms aren't fancy but large and nicely appointed - double beds with pillow top mattresses, new coffee maker, nice furniture, large and clean bathroom and shower, clean linen. Chairs on the porch in front of the room for lounging, or the patio deck that connects the motel to the bar.The bar caters to a younger, working-class crowd and the motel to outdoor types like fishermen and snowmobilers. Noticed several workers staying here as well. Not really a family place, a local cabin would work better for that. There are minor draw backs - no A/C, which usually isn't a problem up here. And it does take a while for the water to get hot - just be patient.Compared to some of the fish camps and motels in the South I've stayed in for fishing, this place is the Taj Mahal. Definitely a decent place to stay if you're up for outdoor sport.

Arrived around 6:30 with a reservation on a Thursday night. (They only take orders until 8.) A few others in the dining room. Drinks were ordered--about $7 each. Appetizers--bread, butter, cracker basket, cheese spread...Beautiful setting--seated at the window, watching some boat activity on the lake. Sun was setting. A lot to look at, not only outside but the collections inside. The three of us ordered walleye, fried shrimp, and chicken Oscar, baked potato, herbed mashed, beans and cabbage. Soup was chicken spaetzle. I can't tell you how excellent my chicken meal was! And $18.95. Salad could have been ordered instead of soup. Time for dessert and one piece of peach pie was delivered (warmed) along with bread pudding with a ton of whipped cream. ($4.75) Who would guess that bread pudding was to die for??!! I even asked for the simple recipe! (Maybe I shouldn't have revealed that!) Excellent two hour dining experience. Perhaps, just a bit of soft music would have added to the ambiance. Too bad that the restaurant will close for the season soon. I think this hard-working family needs a break! Excellent service.

My family had pizza here for dinner on a Saturday night. They had gluten-free pizza which is nice to find in northern Wisconsin. My daughter had the GF pizza & my wife & I had the regular pizza. The pizza was OK. Other items on the menu looked overpriced since the dining room was pretty basic. If I'm paying $25-30 an entrée, I'd want nicer surroundings. I don't think I'd eat here again.

The service seemed slow - maybe it was what we ordered - but the portions were huge. The Irish stew was great, but the shepherd's pie seemed to be made with instant mashed potatoes.

Aurora Borealis is a casual fined inning restaurant in the Northwoods of Wisco with great bar food served late and breakfast with southwest style!
Never can tell if a restaurant will be good the next year but A.B. didn't disappoint. I had the scallops with a base of pea puree that was incredible. I usually hate peas but this was scrumptious! Wait/hostess staff could use a uniform upgrade. Even wearing aprons would be helpful. Will be back again next year!

I've eaten here many times while passing by on Hwy. 51 and I've never been disappointed. The wait staff are greet you warmly and genuinely seem happy to see you. They also love to tell the history of famous John Dillinger shoot out that took place there in 1934.But first things first. If I am on my way up north, skip the chain restaurants in Minoqua, Eagle River, etc and wait until you get here. Manitowish Waters isn't exactly a city, think of it a a stretch of highway with some businesses. When you walk into his lodge cabin style and restaurant, you feel you've arrive "up north". Relax and enjoy the state's signature drink (brandy old-fashioned) soak up the lake views from the windows frames by evergreens. Lots of dead animals on the walls. The food is reasonably priced and good. It's not haute cuisine, it more geared towards comfort food. The shoot out between law enforcement and John Dillinger and his gang was made more famous in the 2009 film starring Johnny Depp "Public Enemies". Scenes were filmed here. In fact, there are still bullet holes in the walls, windows, etc. There are also newspaper front pages reporting the shoot out the next day.Highly recommend.

This is truly a special dining experience. Enjoy 4-5 levels of dining. The salad cart is unbelievable and could be a meal on its own. The soups and entrees are all homemade and delicious and different then anywhere in the Northwoods. Even if you are not a fan of Cajun cooking you are bound to find something you love!

I have been coming up here for 40 plus years. I love the charm of the old supper clubs. But Aberdeen is hands down the best quality food around town. I love the atmosphere, beautiful bar, separate small kids room with claw machines, super friendly owner and equally friendly waitstaff. Never left here disappointed! Our goal is to provide the necessary ingredients, allowing our guests to have a wonderful experience every time they visit Aberdeen Restaurant & Bar. Ambiance, food quality, food variety, service and friendliness are the core of what we strive to provide. We love hearing from our guests and it's gratifying when we are successful as you state in your last sentence, "Never left here disappointed!" Thank you for taking time to share your experiences...Larry
