We were staying at the hotel so it was convenient just to eat here rather than drive somewhere else. Don't be misled by the name "beach bar" and think it's just french fries and hot dogs. We had fish one evening with a very nice sauce, and a salad another evening, full of ingredients rather than simply greens. Mud pie was interesting!

In the mornings, the open-air bay view restaurant is home to a legendary breakfast buffet with made-to-order waffles and omelets, fresh tropical fruits and juices, healthy whole-grain cereals and tasty pastries. With the sunset, the ambiance changes as Ma
We went to twice this past week to the Manta restaurant for dinner. It is the most romantic place on the Kohala coast. My husband has severe shellfish allergies and they were able to give good suggestions and prepare his food without cross-contamination. The staff was lovely and welcoming. The food cooked to perfection - generous portions (but not too large). As a bonus, we were able to see the manta rays swimming along the shore after dinner. Thanks for taking such good care of us once again.

My husband and I stopped here with friends for breakfast before a big day of sightseeing. We ate upstairs, open-air with a view onto the ocean and warm breezes. Most of us had the Big Island Basics breakfast and one had the Belgian Waffle. We all enjoyed our meal, plentiful servings! My husband did not care for the Portuguese sausage but I had plenty of bacon to share. Coffee was very good. Our service was friendly and prices reasonable. If you eat here, do note that the restrooms are upstairs, as we found at most multi-level restaurants we visited. I don't know if there was an elevator.

It's a great little spot to stop at and grab some shaved ice. I usually grab something here on my way to Hawi for hiking down into Pololu Valley. Friendly people too!

I feel bad...we wanted to love the pizza, the other 3 tables of diners tonight were locals, we left full but won't be back. Our best description is Pau's reminded us a college town late night pizza place...cheap...filling...you eat the pizza because you came for pizza...and I'm not talking a University town pizzeria but a middle of nowhere college town pizzeria. We had 2 beers, an iced tea and a pizza w/mushrooms, onions and sausage, and a Caesar salad to share. Our bill was $49 plus tip, again cheap. Metal chairs, sticky tables, floor that needs steam cleaned, small napkins and small glasses of water or tea. The Caesar was fresh and tasty. The pizza crust tasted frozen (I'm sure it isn't), the cheese half melted, sauce was sweet, the onions were cooked 1st so limp vs raw onion baked, we couldn't find a mushroom, the sausage was good. We ate everything...we were hungry...we drove from our hotel. The staff was friendly but too casual. We were there for 45 minutes and only saw 1 to-go order picked up, maybe they deliver? Sorry, set your expectation.

We wanted a casual evening cocktails & dinner, only 3 miles from Mauna Kea BH, we decided on Seafood Bar & Grill. We arrived at 6pm, sat at the bar, although tables and outside veranda style seating were available, and we were waited on immediately. We started out with draft Heineken and a vodka martini while we reviewed the menu and specials. We decided on the island salad w/Cajun Opah which was huge & delicious plus an order of the cheese bread, and the lobster & crab pot pie which was AMAZING! On Tuesday evenings they have a Prime Rib special so we will return for that. They have a food & drink happy hour from 3-6pm & early-bird fish special at $30 from 5-6:30pm. The restaurant was packed until about 7pm. We ended with the mud pie & NY cheesecake w/strawberries. We were surprised at the quality seafood on the menu for the atmosphere which is a local bar/grill/tiki. Tons of workers and food was paced nicely. Our bill was $122 plus tip. (3 beers & 2 martinis). What a find!

I never order food when I come here, I always start with the beer sampler. Very good craft beer, not only the usual hoppy stuff either. I did have some of their Porter over a bowl of vanilla ice cream. (Not on menu). They close early, just like every other place on this island. Be careful, some of their beers are quite strong and can sneak up on you.

Went to dinner there recently with a friend....no reservations turn up sign in ...wait for a table...actually although they were really busy it wasnât that long a wait. The food was delicious and plentiful. The staff were attentive and friendly. They do have tendency to sell out of their most popular dishes although they had everything we ordered :-) It was an experience I will take again :-)

Expect a little wait but worth it. Also expect to take some home. Great cheery service. Decided to try this on our way to several excellent farmer's markets in the area. A local recommended it. Meals are served on oval turkey platters. I like crispy bacon and theirs is deep fried so it is definitely crispy. As you can see from pictures portions are huge. I had the 2 eggs, corned beef hash, and french toast. The hash was served thin and crispy - very good but after seeing the kailua pork hash over fried rice that would be my recommendation. The french toast is a sweet bread but just standard stuff. They didn't leave it in the egg long enough to soak into the bread. Over medium eggs were perfect. I tried the hash browns- also large helping. The real surprise is their side of pancakes that comes with most egg meals. the serve 2 on these large oval platters. Nice and fluffy. The menu includes loco mocos and an assortment of meats like portuguese sausage and blood sausage. The menu was large enough to get you back for several different breakfasts and lunches.

Located in the heart of the Big Islands farm community is Peter Merriman's original restaurant; Merriman's Waimea. Chef/Owner Peter Merriman is one of the founders of Hawaii Regional Cuisine and uses 90% or more of local produce, fish and beef. All dishes
We have dined at Merrimanâs on Maui and on Kauai, each different from the other. This Big Island location, the original, is different yet. Interesting starters of quesadilla and Israeli salad. The Parker Ranch steaks were amazing and beautifully prepared. Not usually a fan of mashed potatoes, I was pleased that mine were seasoned lightly with jalapeno. Cozy place, great menu and pleasant server.
