Franklin Cafe Cape Ann

We tried to get into a popular restaurant in Rockport, but there were no tables available. Our BnB advised us to try Franklin in Gloucester and we were thrilled with this popular local spot on Main Street. It was quite crowded but were quickly shown a table. There were a number of families with little ones that were given the same gracious welcome. I chose the catfish (mildly spicy) with mango sauce served with a tasty rice & grilled veggies. It was one of my favorite fish dishes anywhere. My husband had their special of short ribs of beef. He often orders this dish and counted this one as excellent. Stuffed as I was, I had to try one of their homemade desserts. It was a fruit cobbler warmed just right. This is a long way from our home, but we’ll definitely go back on our next Cape Ann visit.

This is a terrific spot. Excellent drinks, delicious break and wonderful food. The salads, fish, lobster, clams, everything is delicious...and the service is perfect. We went twice in five days, and would have gone back had time allowed. Don't miss it...the best in Gloucester.

This place is unbelievable, prices are reasonable and portions are HUGE, their cup of clam chowder is a bowl any other place and it is excellent. I had the steak tips and they were exceptionally good. Everything they have is great, only downside is it is a cash only place.

I usually only give 4 or 5 star reviews. The Seaport Grill was just - mediocre. Yes, there are big portions , but big portions of blah food. I can only base this on one experiene there. First, our waiter was very welcoming, so happy to see us, cheerul cheerful. And then he barely appeared again. We had to ask other waiters for another drink, etc. huh ??I had the “ Mexican” haddock. I am a New Englander and I know I like haddock. This was a bland piece of fish with what could best be called a “ hunk” of avocado next to it. Not sliced avocado or guacamole, just a lump of avocado. The plate also had some very bland ( out of a jar?) salsa next tomthe fish. Tasteless. The whole thing was a sad presentation. My husband had the baked stuffed lobster, a dish he has ordered many times here and there. He said it was overcooked with tough shrimp in it. OK, not poison, but poorly prepared. The only thing that kept us from registering a complaint was that a second waiter ( not “ our” missing waiter)brought us a second glass of wine and it was a big pour. So, disappointing. Go there if:OK food is ok with you.Presentation doesnt matter. You want a big portion or not poisonous food.Sorry.We are sorry to hear you were disappointed in your visit and we fell short of our usual high standards. Your feedback is appreciated and we sincerely apologize for the inconveniences you experienced. We've lived in Gloucester for nearly 5 years and are happy that Duckworth's was one of the first restaurants we tried, because the quality of the food and service is second to none. That is why it is such a challenge to get a reservation on less than a week's notice. Plan ahead and enjoy a fabulous meal and be sure to save room for one of their great dessert.
