Staying the night in hillsville and decided to stop at Applebee's for lunch. We ended up leaving before we even got our drinks. Why? When we walked in to the place the manager was yelling at the staff by the kitchen "if you are so hungry you need to eat before you come to work" - there were maybe 4 tables occupied - each one was staring back at the manager - was loud and obnoxious. I went into the bathroom to wash my hands - as I entered, a worker was leaving and was apparent that he just flushed the toilet - did not wash his hands. Got back to the table and my wife said the waitress was really rude. Our 7 year old asked for a orange juice - waitress said we only have lemonade. Wife said, it says you have it on your kids menu. Waitress says, well I am new and don't really know what they have. Waitress also complained about manager - "don't know why he gets so mad at us eating while being on the clock". Needless to say, we left and went to macados down the street. We have had bad experiences at Applebee's in Winston Salem and Charlotte - decided to give it a chance for a third time - done done done. Oh and also meant to mention about the bathroom - was filthy - how is that so when you just opened at 11 and we were there at 1130. Will never go to Applebee's again.

We ordered the five dollar fill up boxes with 2 piece chicken, mashed potatoes and signature gravy, biscuit, cookie and drink. All were hot and tasty. The was quick and friendly. The restaurant looked clean.

Interesting Halloween drinks. Nice selection of beers. Meat Lover's Pizza had a nice crust but the ham was lunch meat cut to 1/2 inch squares. Seemed like a local favorite. As the evening got busy the bartender became overwhelmed and service suffered. Hard to judge the food on just one plate. We'd give it a second chance.

Good range of food at very reasonable price. However it is very much basic dining, with plastic plates and poor service. Still a great deal if you are watching your budget.

We stopped for dinner and enjoyed the Creekside Cafe. Very casual, diner vibe. Our server was pleasant, and our food was fine. I had a cup of tomato/basil soup that was very good, and my salad with grilled shrimp was fine, nothing fancy, but I didn't expect fancy. Worth a visit, and it appeared to be popular with the locals.

My husband and I ate at this cafe after being referred to it by our hotel. We were not disappointed. The staff are super friendly. The cafe is very much local and the food comes in large portions and the prices are under $10. If in the area, give this place a try.

Time between beverage and food order and delivery to table was very long. Ordered red wine and was given white. When the food arrived, we were told that âthe forks werenât cleaned yet,â so my wife was given plastic utensils and I was given a soup spoon to eat my potato salad. The bottom slice of bread on my Ruben was burned. The paper towel dispenser in the menâs room was empty (with no hand drier alternative). Ambience was nice, although noisy.

There are some good things to eat at the Galax Smokehouse but it wasnât the BBQ. The brisket is terrible. They claim itâs Texas style brisket but itâs nowhere close to Texas BBQ. SKIP it! The pulled pork is average at best. They have four different types of bbq sauce. These werenât bad. You actually need some sauce to make the meat taste like something. On the bright side, the baked beans, corn nuggets and hush puppies are good. I asked the waitress what was the best thing on the menu - she said the banana pudding. Actually she was right. They have a lot of neat old pictures on the wall. Go there to check them out and have some banana pudding...skip the pork and brisket.

I was driving from NC to MI and decided to drive since I have not experienced VA, WVA, and PA at all in my life thus far. The Virginia Welcome Center recommended them (and called) so I detoured a bit to stop by. I had a Porter they had on tap and shared caramel turtles a friend made me for the trip. Brilliant Porter. The staff was the highlight. Lovely girl that helped me navigate the beers they sold in cans and bottles and a friendly guy working with her. Met some locals that were awesome. I stayed longer than I should considering my drive goals. Loved this place8
