Dubrovnik Garden Restaurant

One of the great things about the Cleveland metro area (and there are plenty) is the extensive number of restaurants serving authentic, affordable and delicious central and eastern European food. I'm always happy when I discover a new one, like Dubrovnik Garden Restaurant smack in the middle of the American-Croatian Lodge.Lunch in this handsome dining room (with a futbol game being quietly shown in one corner) was delightful. The menu is heavy on meat dishes but pescatarians and vegetarians will find plenty of choices as well – salads, soups, seafood, pasta and even a vegetable stir fry.The large serving of blackened walleye featured moist, fresh and excellently prepared fish. The Villa Croatia platter (“a little of everything,” said our server who I now know is prone to understatement) was filled with nice-sized portions of raznjici (grilled and skewered pork), cevapcici (a sausage of grilled lamb, beef and pork), tender pork schnitzel and one of the best cabbage rolls I've had in years. Sides included fresh, steamed veggies and an addictive, well-seasoned potato cake.Future visits go without saying. The adjacent Croatian Heritage Museum and Library was closed the day we were there and that would be interesting to explore. But let's be honest, we came for the food. And I'll be thinking about chicken paprikash pierogies, smoked Slovenian sausage with kraut and more of those cabbage rolls for days ahead.Service is helpful and cheerful. Prices are right. This is worth a visit.

We had been there before for appetizers and drinks so we really looked forward to a full dinner. My pork chop was great but my companions catch of the day fresh Salmon was disappointing. Very dry. When we told our waitress she conveyed this to the chef whose response was we should have told him how we wanted it cooked. Well we certainly don't want it dried out. They apologized but still charged full price. I happened to stop at the bar a few days later and my friends asked about specials. Guess what. Fresh Salmon catch of the day was one. Hmmm. Don't know but it makes me wonder

Probably the first thing you will notice is that they don't have a parking lot. The offer complimentary valet parking. The entrance is small but the restaurant is very comfortable. We went on half price sushi night. The menu is mostly seafood with a limited selection for anything else. I had a fish sandwich and my granddaughter had the burger selection. The burger was very good but the fish sandwich was just OK. The prices are what I feel extremely high. Fourteen dollars for each sandwich which came with truffle fries so our two sandwiches were $30.00 plus tax. Could have gotten a burger at another favorite place for $6.99 including unlimited fries.

I had business meeting at Willoughby Brewing, great history with the building that has been repurposed into the brewery from its old days as an old trolley repair depot. The food was good, not 5-star, its not supposed to be, its all about the Beer! The Peanut Butter Cup Coffee Porter is really good, I was a little leery as I am not a fan of coffee, but the peanut butter was forward and the coffee was muddled. I was disappointed as they did not have the pumpkin or the creme brulee on hand. Hopnotic Red Ale was also good, the sell crowlers and growlers, they mix the PB Coffee and the Railway Razz (berry) which is great, I took a crowler home of that one.

My wife is taking cake decorating classes directly across from this restaurant so we decided to meet there for a quick dinner. We were told that they were known for their wood fired oven pizzas, and they did not disappoint. We both started off with a house salad, both of us chose the balsamic dressing. The waiter asked if we wanted cheese on our salads. We both said yes and enjoyed. For $6.00 the salad comes with a nice assortment of greens, tomato, cucumber and of course, the cheese and dressing. A nice size salad at that price. We settled on the Sullivan pizza which has their made in house Marguerita sauce which is basically crushed tomatoes and garlic. then there is roasted eggplant, spinach, little more tomato, ricotta cheese, then a blend of mozzarella/provolone and a drizzle of garlic oil. Yummy! The crust, BTW, is a thin crust, but still sturdy enough to pickup individual pieces by hand. They also have a nice selection of main dish salads, sandwiches and burgers. I f you are a beer drinker, you'll be in heaven as they have probably sixteen craft beers on tap. I had a pint of Guiness, my wife iced tea, since she had to decorate a cake afterwards. The pizzas start at $8.00 for a build your own up to $14 for the loaded J Ceasy. The size is your basic 12" eight cut. We wound up taking half our pizza home. Our total came to $42.00 which included a 20% tip. The service was outstanding as we were in and out of there in about 45 minutes.

Melt offers a large variety of sandwiches and foods specially created with a variety of cheeses. Sandwiches and serving sizes are large portions. The food is tasty and served to order. You have no reason to leave this place hungry. Prices are rather expensive at Melt. The theme reminds me of the 50's and 60's. Enjoy beers and sodas from cans and glass bottles.WAIT TIMESMelt estimated a 20-minute wait time to get into the restaurant. It was much quicker to sit and order at the bar. While the lobby had people waiting to get in, there were a handful of open tables at all times during our visit. I'm assuming they were short on staff.I would recommend visiting Melt for a taste of Cleveland. The sandwiches are well-worth a try, but be prepared to pay for it.

My friend was kind enough to treat me to lunch. She had heard that this establishment was known for it's tasty seafood. I was quite disappointed in my selection. I had the fish and chips. The fish was very bland and the portion was small. The fries were greasy and tasted sweet. I do not think that my friend cared for her lunch selection as well ( Lobster bisque). Our server was gruff and not very professional. Not very attentive as well. I drove all the way from the Seven Hills area. Not worth the drive. Thank you.
