Things to do in Danville
We stopped for lunch for nostalgic reasons, hubby had been there many times in the past under prior owners. The history was great, a former gas station turned restaurant tucked away off the beaten path, story told on the menu. They are open for all three meals, 6 days a week serving typical diner food. We both had burgers and fries that were very good and service was excellent. Easy going atmosphere and people were friendly; the place is small and people talked across tables and the counter. They are just getting started, so things were rather plain with little decoration. Right now, it's cash only with an ATM inside the door. That may change as they get better established.

Stopped for an early dinner after a soccer game. We had four entrees: 2 Grilled Shrimp, 1 Fried Shrimp and 1 Ribeye Steak sandwich. All the entrees taste OK but ALL were cold. French fries were cold. The Rice Pilaf was not even edible, my wife said it tasted like eating the consistency of soil. Tried putting a slab of butter in it but still bad. Rolls were very brown on the top and bottom, not even butter really helped, we ate 1 between the four of us. After we were done the waitress spilled cocktail Sause on my wife's WHITE coat. She was very apologetic and it did come off after washing it but this experience will have us not coming back. Seems to be going downhill at this restaurant, used to be very good place to eat.

We ate at the Gilbert St. Steak 'n Shake in Danville, IL while passing through the area recently. We have eaten at a number of their locations around the U.S. but this one had the most exceptional service we've ever had there, if not among any restaurant anyplace. We arrived around 5:30 p.m. on a Monday. We were greeted and seated right away by our server. He was prompt, attentive to every detail, down to beverage refills, special requests for our burger order, and applying the various discounts to the bill. The meal came quickly, tasted great, and we were even given a beverage refill to go! The server set an example for what exceptional service looks like!Counting all of the various discounts/promotions they had going, plus their $4 menu, two of us were able to eat for around $8. I don't remember the last time we've been able to eat out so inexpensively. We will definitely keep this Steak 'n Shake location in mind for future visits to the area.

Those three important dining features - plus a very well prepared & tasty walleye dinner special - warranted giving Rich's Deluxe a Very Good rating for our first visit. Visar A was our waiter for an early Friday night supper, with a very small number of other patrons in the restaurant. We received attentive service from him, and our meals were served hot & relatively quickly. The tomato bisque soup I started with was more like thinned tomato cream sauce typically served over pasta, and very salty. My wife enjoyed her broccoli cheddar soup more, as she did her mushroom Swiss burger. None of what we ate was outstanding, but it was a solid meal for a fair price and we would consider returning on our next trip to Danville.

Found this place while traveling through TripAdvisor. Breakfast was great and very low priced. We paid $15 for two great big omelette breakfast with potatoes and toast and coffee. Would advise anyone to go. I saw from the bulletin board that they had homemade pies which I really wanted to have a piece but I guess I would have to wait for another time and go for lunch or dinner!

We canât come to Danville without stopping for pizza and salad. The atmosphere is clean and comfortable;the bathroom in the main dining room could use an update but was clean. Weâve like being able to reserve the private room when we have a larger party for dinner.
