We have dined at Barncastle twice now. The first time we chose an entrée and were not very impressed. The second visit was for pizza, however, and this time the meal made up for the shortcomings of visit number one. Barncastle apparently inherited the pizza recipes of a former Blue Hill favorite, and they are carrying on the tradition in delicious style.

We've always been fans of Alisson's in Kennebunkport when it comes to lobster rolls, and while this didn't live up to our memories of the ones we had at Alissons, they were really, really good. And, as we discovered a few days later when we stopped at Alisson's on our way back home, better than what we got there this time. Go figure!

We were seeking something light for lunch and came across this casual restaurant near the dock. The owner directed us to a table where a couple of from Germany were already seated. My wife and I each decided on cups of clam chowder that turned out to be very good. I would be tempted to return some morning to sample the wide variety of displayed breakfast pastries that we were told are baked each day.

This is an ideal restaurant for a special occasion. It is tastefully appointed and the food was attractively presented and served in a timely fashion.Minor problems were that the dining room can be noisy at the height of the dining hour and that the quality of the desserts did not live up to the quality of the rest of the meal.

The town is just SOOO beautiful.. everyone needs to see this town at least 1x in their life. Its tiny and easy to get around.. beautiful views everywhere. understated elegance! We stayed at the Castine Inn, but did not eat there. The room was clean, and quaint. It was a warm summer night, but the fan/open window/ocean view and breeze kept it cool enough. I guess if I had anything of an issue it would be there was no TV in the room, not really a big deal but we typically check weather and Red Sox scores in the am.. again not an issue. We walked down to the water and ate at a small place there. Take the time to chat with the locals, its a beautiful slice of downeast!!!

Small taproom with a pool table and pinball machines, yes pinball machines. We had the chicken wings and pot stickers for appetizers and they were wonderful. We ordered Rubens and hamburgers which were served with a choice of regular or sweet potato fries. Everything tasted great and was served hot and fresh. It was busy when we arrived so we expected to wait a bit and we were in no rush to leave and enjoyed the atmosphere and company. There were many choices of beer on tap and in bottles. Many were local microbrews. They offer to go and noticed many people ordering take out pizza.Great place to meet friends for food or drink while in Castine.

Clean, pleasant, dock side eating location, fresh seafood, average prices for a tourist / college town. Order at one window, pick up by name at another - the day we went the announcement was fast, garbled and not clear enough for old ears at the picnic tables. Great staff at the Harbor Masters dock - we arrived by personal sail boat.Greetings Fellow Seafarer! Thank you for the feedback, we truly appreciate it. Our new PA system is an improvement over our staff "yelling" at folks from the pick up window and it appears that we do need to take our time in announcing names over the system. Castine is definitely a boaters gem for a day sail or evening rest stop. We will share your feedback with the dock hands as well, they do a wonderful job all summer keeping visitors safe. Please come and visit us again and enjoy summer in Maine!

The Wharf at 15 Sea Street

Dennet's Wharf has always been one of the best parts about Castine boating and dining. A fried haddock sandwich with delicious thin-cut fries and an ice cold beer is one of the joys of the Castine experience. They re-modeled, jacked up prices ($15 hotdog no joke) and removed their fried fish sandwich in place of a Cajun Whaler w/ jalapenos. I ordered it anyway - it was grey/dark meat, smaller than the bun, and tasted like oily fish. Not the bigger than the bun, fresh catch, white fish that is lightly fried and the highlight of the old restaurant. No matter what you do - don't mess with the most popular item on the menu. PLEASE CHANGE IT BACK - I BEG YOU. Service was slow as usual, but I wouldn't mind if they hadn't destroyed the menu and turned an outdoor fresh seafood restaurant into a Florida-Georgia Line Creole venue.

After a two year hiatus we returned to Buck's restaurant twice in a week. We were very pleased with the welcoming hostesses and the friendly efficient servers. Over two visits we had the chicken and pork chop entrees and the mussel appetizer which is large enough for an entrée. The chicken and mussels were delicious. The pork chop while generously cut and tasty on the outside had little flavor on the inside....marinate maybe? Bland pork chop aside we will be back. We are so glad you enjoyed your time with us. I will pass your kind words on to our dedicated, friendly staff. Regarding your pork chop, I will be sure to let our chef know that you felt it was not very flavorful. Your input helps us to know what we are doing right and to correct our mistakes.
