A diverse multicultural city of almost 1.3 million, Panama City offers a lot more than an up-close view of the Canal. Shantytowns slink up alongside shiny high-rise condos. The Old City is an atmospheric labyrinth of churches, plazas and palaces. Fifteen miles from downtown Panama City, Soberania National Park is an excellent destination for hiking and birding. For a fascinating look at the canal, take a taxi or local bus to Miraflores Locks Visitor Center and look down on the traffic below.

Still here! I would have left if I could get a refund. 1st time with AMR group & last time. I expect way more. The resort is very tired. The room made my sinuses have issues & feel like crap with the mustiness & mold. Not only my room but my other couple traveling with us too. Food mediocre. Only a few stand out employees. Don’t even get me started about how you have to chase down employees just for a towel or coffee for your room. Best thing about our Panama trip was our personal tour guide Alahendria! Reach out if you want her number.

I am giving Plaza Riu a very mixed review because of my experience there - I was there for 5 nights for a conference and I had both good and bad experiences. Let's start with the bad experiences: I met some really incompetent and rude staff, in particular there was Endy the night duty manager who was shockingly rude to me. I tried explaining to him the problem I had and he didn't seem to understand my English, so I switched to Spanish given that I spoke Spanish well and he had the audacity to get insulted at the fact that I switched to Spanish with him - he was like, "sir I speak English perfectly well, you don't need to speak Spanish with me." And I had to tell him, well if you claim to speak English well, you don't seem to understand what I have just explained to you in English and that's why I offered to explain it to you in Spanish. The staff at the hotel seem to be really proud of the fact that they speak English well but really, the standard does vary and whilst I don't expect them to be fluent in English, it was shocking that Endy could take offence at me trying to explain the problem to him in his native language. I was placed in a no win situation - he couldn't understand me in English and got upset with me trying to explain my problem to him in Spanish, which was his mother tongue. Talk about frustrating! Good grief, so few people in Panama speak English well and I usually get grief for not being fluent enough in Spanish in Panama but this was the one time someone gave me grief for trying to speak Spanish in Panama. Aura was another member of staff who was lacking in empathy when things went wrong, there was that look on her face like, "yeah things didn't go as planned, I just work here, see if I care." Then there were members of staff who were super nice like Glory and Marino - ironically, both of them were quite happy to speak to me in a mix of Spanish and English, happily allowing me to switch back and forth between the two. I got along well with the both of them and wondered why other members of staff weren't as brilliant as these two. It is worrying though that you can have some members of staff who are absolutely great when it comes to dealing with guests when things go wrong and others who have that, "see if I care, I know you're upset but I can't be bothered" attitude. There is no quality control when it comes to their staff training, with some staff being very good with guests whilst others being downright rude with that classic "I really can't be bothered to help you, I don't care" attitude. So it's really your luck of the draw which member of staff responds to your query whenever you need something - are you going to get a rude person who can't be bothered or a genuinely nice member of staff who knows the meaning of empathy for their guests? Look, I was there for a conference, I was super busy most of the time - I wasn't there for a holiday. I didn't have time to split hairs with the staff, all I wanted was for someone to respond when things went wrong. As for the rooms, yeah my room was nice but for my first night, I had someone check into the room next door very late and then was very noisy all night long, disturbing my rest. Then I got lucky, that person must have left and the rest of my stay was very peaceful at night. So noise can travel between rooms and whether or not you get a restful night's sleep will depend on what kind of people are in the room(s) adjacent to yours. Breakfast was pretty good though the quality of the coffee was disappointing. The pool area looked nice but alas, as I was on a business trip, I didn't get to spend much time there. But hey, the conference facilities at the hotel were pretty good.

LIFE THREATENING! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! On May 5th, 2022 I dined in at the location with my family. Promptly at sitting down, as usual whenever I eat out, I alerted the server I had a severe nut allergy. She said she understood and would arrange for a plain dessert since that section had nuts. However, to my surprise, the POORLY labeled buffet had cooked rice with almonds (a total oddity in Panama), which quickly caused an allergic reaction. I rushed to the front desk, who provided ZERO assistance. Thankfully I was able to resolve the situation at a local clinic. The waiters and front desk provided no compensation and just a shrug of shoulders. There was no promise to provide labels with allergens in the buffet, train the servers to understand the severity of the requests of guests. This story should tell you all you need to know about the location. You’ll find better service at other places that won’t possibly kill you!

Excellent service, location, quality of rooms and pool! We checked in late at night, and were warmly greeted. Both the bellmen and the front desk were more than accommodating. The breakfast buffet is one of the best free breakfasts (goes until 1pm) that I have seen and it was good fresh food. The pool was perfect for us and an amazing view. We enjoyed walking through the Costa Del Este area, especially the path by the water. Great restaurants within walking distance. The rooms were spacious, clean and housekeeping was great.

Clean, friendly, free shuttle to airport, food below average: soggy lettuce in Chicken Ceasar salad and carton eggs and lunchmeat for breakfast. Basically upscale hotel but food is poor, so overpriced.

They had opened just a few days early before our stay so I think our group was the only one staying at the time. My husband and I were the only guest at our floor, so no dealing with unnecessary noise but it would creep me out heading to the room at night ( but since I'm a horror fan it was an adventure for me). Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was very nice and clean. It is connected to Multicentro mall and a casino. Really no complains; I would say "give it a try"

Sheraton Grand Panama is a deluxe five-star hotel perfectly situated in the heart of Panama City’s business and financial district. Enjoy superb amenities and the proximity of Tocumen International Airport and the Atlapa Convention Center, which is located just across the street from the hotel. This luxury hotel in Panama City is surrounded by premier leisure attractions such as the famous Multiplaza Shopping Mall and the shops and restaurants of Old Panama.
The hotel grounds are nice, admittedly I didn't get to see it all. Only had breakfast buffet there (which was really good with great variety). As for the room, clean, service every morning with room cleaned, beds made, etc...replacement of towels a little lacking. Some issues for the room that need some attention, the bathroom doesn't have any exhaust fan. There is no mirror in the bedroom, so if someone is using the bathroom and another wants to get ready in the room, no mirror. Bathroom for standard rooms is pretty small. Had to request more items (shampoo, etc as only had one bottle). The hairdryer is pitiful, super weak and takes forever to dry your hair. Front desk was super confused on how to properly split the bill for us on business sharing a room. Took a long time and they still didn't figure it out properly. That said, the lady working evenings at desk was super nice and helpful. Another thing- carry some small first aid items for your guests like bandaids since there is no store in resort for this kind of thing. Overall, good stay, quiet hotel with good service, just needs a few improvements. Would stay again though.
