Just returned from a beautiful week in Portugal our first family holiday with 9 month old baby. Travelled with Tui package deal. Transfer from airport on arrival straightforward approx an hour no other pick ups. Check in was simple. No arrival drinks like previous reviews mentioned. Used the screens to book restaurants although timings were all quite late in evening, with the little one we needed to eat earlier, Tui rep advised asked at reception. Receptionist got us booked at all 3 resturants at 6.30/7pm perfect time for us with baby. Complex and grounds all lovely, nice buzzing happy family friendly atmosphere, high chairs in all restaurants, childrens play area. Splash pool not much shade and parasols have no fittings so not able to creAte shade for little ones. Hotel room standard family room, lovely rooms modern fresh clean and comfortable, cot made up on arrival for baby which was great, comfy mattress for cot better than standard travel cot, and was given a baby bath for the week (ask at reception) Small rooms, not much space to store clothes / unpack, no robes or slippers, but it was fine for us. Food is repetitive not much choice, but I think this is expected in Europe all inclusive. Piri piri resturant and surf and turf make a nice change to the buffet. Snack bar for ice creams / cakes good. Staff are polite and happy to give you anything on request, baby fruit pouches / yogurts. Not loads of food choice for baby who is still weaning, we took baby snacks and pouches. Beach a short walk away or pleasant train ride. Beach is stunning beautiful Algarve. Alvor is a lovely town with a marina and shops and restaurants. All in all we would recommend Pestana blue and would stay again, we had a great time and made lovely memories, don’t worry about the negative reviews, after all the lockdowns and covid it’s just lovely to get away again, and after all any holiday is what you make of it!

Overall the resort is immaculate. Staff are refreshingly informal but… No poolside service in a place claiming to be 5* is unforgivable. Prices are 5* however. The much publicised restaurant ‘Senses’ was closed leaving a small and very limited offering just off the bar. The poolside loungers are uncomfortable and not supplied with any cushions. We won’t be going back.

Weve just had a lovely 10 day stay at this hotel and I'd go back in a heartbeat. I can appreciate that there is some truth to the negative comments but I just can't agree with them completely. We went during half term so it was pretty busy but we always got a sunbed. We didn't have issues with queues whilst we were there and the cups were definitely not tiny. They were small paper cups but a decent enough size. I saw a few people get more than 2 alcoholic drinks at a time too so perhaps this rule has been loosened? I was quite relieved as we didn't have any issues with queuing at the bar day or night for the daily cocktail! The mini disco was sweet the songs were in other languages but the kids don't care, they learn the routines and join in regardless which is lovely. I do agree there could be a little more engagement though it feels a little like the kids are watching dancers rather than the animation team? They could maybe do more games and have winners for musical statues, maybe do a conga and get a couple kids on stage to compete or something? But the floor was full every night so that just goes to show you! The food was amazing. The comments re the lack of variety are unfathomable. I honestly don't know what more you could want. An amazing salad bar with different mini salads each day, amazing fish, different meat dishes each day, different pasta dishes, always chips and fresh stone baked pizza, different cooked vegetables, stews, fish pies, lasagnes, we ate like Kings! And beautiful cream cakes fruits ice creams daily. And thats not even starting on breakfasts ! Everything you could expect from an all inclusive buffet was there. No complaints. Except maybe that my pants are now a little tight... didn't visit the snack bar so can't comment there. No ice cream available outside lunch and dinner but gorgeous ice cream place down the road. Our 4 year old went to the kids club a few times and I have to say the animation team are a credit to the hotel they work so hard and are so friendly. Our son loved going on the bouncy castle and they also ran adult classes all day like aqua gym, ping pong, yoga and an amazing pool party one afternoon it was such great fun and there was always something to get involved in (if you could pull yourself away from the slides) The pool is cold thats true , so I dont recommend going for your holiday in November, stick to the summer months and you'll be fine. Overall dying to go back ! Amazing beach 2 mins away, few excursions to keep you happy and lovely hardworking staff. Thanks for a great stay ?

Beautiful hotel and grounds but sadly thats the only positive i can write about, the hotel is approx 10 mins from the marina with nothing close to the hotel so they have you by the short and curlys, this is a corporate hotel and in my opinion that is what it mainly caters for, completely lifeless with no atmosphere what so ever, no entertainment in the evening so if you dont want to sit in the boring lobby on an evening then its getting dressed for a trip to the marina to find a bit of life. Most of the staff here are very friendly and will do what ever they can to help apart from a couple who i have never experienced such a bad attitude and made to feel like we was a inconvenience. On one particular evening we had played golf at vale do lobo and had a meal afterwards at the club house then returned to the hotel we had a bottle of wine in the room which required a corkscrew which none was provided in the room (never known this) so we phoned reception to ask for one, 45 minutes later still no corkscrew so phoned again to be told they was not sure what happened but will have one sent up 10 minutes later a knock on the door i opened and put my hand out to be passed the corkscrew only to be told no i will come in, then the lady and her attitude proceeded to tell us she was too busy and didn't need this (her exact words) then said if we wanted the corkscrew again we would be charged 7.5 euros?well I'm sorry for being a guest and asking for something as simple as a corkscrew which should be provided in the room or was this because the mini bar and the extortionate prices were all screw top? The next morning i reported her and her attitude to reception my next little gripe is with the tea and coffee making facilities in the room you have espresso machine and espresso cups none large enough to make a cup of tea and also no milk powdered or in the little capsules so again I called reception asking for tea cups and a bit of milk to make a cup of tea only for it to arrive with a 4 euro charge, i have never known this in any hotel we have stayed in and we only stay in 5⭐/platinum hotels and usually have 3/4 holidays a year from carribean to Indian ocean how on earth can you make drnks without equipment in the room. We are currently still here and would advise anyone thinking of booking this to look at other hotels closer to the marina which would probably cost half as much and you'd get a better service when we do return to the area we will not be booking this hotel and will not be recommending. Like i said at the beginning this caters for corporate events and tries to extract as much money from guests as possible with almost everything having a charge no atmosphere no entertainment and you would probably find more atmosphere in a morgue than here. This has left a bitter taste and something not expected in a hotel with a 5⭐rating I'm not sure what the inspector was thinking or how he gave it a 5⭐ I'm guessing it must have been only done on the basis of thehotel rooms and grounds or maybe he/she was payed off

Stayed here at the end of May with our 4.5 year old son. We were dropped off at Alfagar but they took us across the road to Alto da Colina - its a large resort with 2 main hotel, a road running between them. Both hotels have pretty much the exact same facilities. We were initially in a 1 bed apt, which had a single bed setup in the sitting room. We were moved to a 2 bed 2days into our holiday and it was great - very big, very clean, large balcony with table and chairs overlooking the pool and sea view in the distance. Kitchen had toaster/microwave/fridge/cooker/oven etc. Our room was on the 2nd floor just above the restaurant/bar area, it was a little noisy when the entertainment was on at night but we slept through it all! We were on half board, breakfast and dinner included - both were buffet and a great selection, the food was all lovely and a good selection of fruit and veg, also a good selection of desserts! Dinner was different every night. Only complaint is the coffee is awful and the glasses of wine weren't good either. Also dinner starts at 6.30pm, I would have preferred a little earlier for small kids. There are lots of different pools but we spent most of our time at the kids slides pool - this is great for kids probably up to about 8 or so, but really safe for younger kids. There is a pool bar beside selling coffee/drinks/food etc. You can rent towels for the week at reception at the hotel - 5euro for as long as you have it with a 10euro deposit. There is a playground which is nice/a tree trekking-zipline, archery, parrot show, reptile show - parrot show and reptile show are a little pushy on selling the photos. We got a taxi for 8euro to the old town in Albufeira (its not a walk) - walked the beach, the streets and had lunch etc. Nice for a morning. There is a spar when you turn left on the main road - has most stuff you'll need. There is also a mini market in the Alfagar hotel across the road. The Cafeteria bar in the Alfagar hotel has a lovely area out the back with a lovely view and lovely cocktails! There is also a lovely walk to the beach - there are some steps down to the beach but it was grand. We would definitely recommend for families and especially with kids under 8-10.

This is one of the best hotels, all inclusive I have visited from Plaja d Aro in Spain to Portamao. All the staff are happy and seem to enjoy working here. I had some lovely conversations with Maria, Tahir, Phillipe, Nicholas, Ricardo to name a few. We tipped regularly and got exceptional service. Rooms are dated but clean and immaculate. Our flight home last Saturday was cancelled and they had no availability but the lovely lady behind reception found a room that was in the block being refurbished. The food is fantastic, drink measures small unless you ask for grande. The grounds are immaculate, poolsare spotless. A few sunbeds need renewing, I was like an upside down tortoise in one. I am celiac but everything is labeled clearly. They do gluten free rolls. I avoided the soups and gravies but my wife loved them. The location is ideal, beautiful head land and beaches. Board walks to the old town and an uber to the escalators is under 4 euros. I'd like to thank all the staff for accommodating me and my daughter Easter and wifey for Whitsun. The entertainment team were fabulous and go the extra mile. Karaoke was fun the Dutch loved my Tom Jones and the wife's Corrs!omg and summer loving. Will be coming back.
