Reviews on African food in Ouagadougou, Centre Region, Burkina Faso. Ouagadougou (/ˌwɑːɡəˈduːɡuː/; French pronunciation: [waɡaduɡu]; Mossi: [ˈwɔɣədəɣʊ]) is the capital of Burkina Faso and the administrative, communications, cultural, and economic centre of the nation. It is also the country's largest city, with a population of 2,200,000 in 2015. The city's name is often shortened to Ouaga. The inhabitants are called ouagalais. The spelling of the name Ouagadougou is derived from the French orthography common in former French African colonies.

Africa has been my business travel for three decades. There have been very few Restaurants as complete and genuine as my new Favorite, the Gondwana! The setting, style, fabrics, the art pieces, beverages and fantastic food...Inspiring!
Vegetables are reigning royalty at La Jardiniere. One can focus on and be satisfied solely with the vegetable sauces that include greens, locust beans [soumbala], okra among others with white rice or riz gras (a local jollof with soumbala and groundnut oil). One can get grilled beef or chicken and beer as needed. The restaurant's focus is ecological and educational. Wait staff are knowledgeable and can explain the dishes well. Spinach and moringa are grown on the premises. Being off the main road with its own greenery, the restaurant is a quiet and cool get-away from Ouagadougou traffic and heat. A visit to La Jardinaire is a must to learn about local culinary culture.

We ordered the traditional assortment for two, which was served on the traditional injera crepe. There was a great variety of dishes, but some lacked flavor and others were not as warm as they should have been. The lamb dish was delicious and there were several mildly spicy options made from green or red lentils. There was a cabbage and onion concoction that I really loved. One "sour note" was the injera itself, which was less sour than it should have been, causing us to wonder if it had even been prepared with teff grain. The charming decor of Chez Haregua was very encouraging, though the lack of other diners was not. Having the place to ourselves meant the service was attentive, but it also seemed lonely. I hope their business picks up later in the evening (we went at 7:15).

We ate in a group. I liked my 'chicken Indian style' (very mild curry) but looked jealously at several other dishes. No one was dissatisfied. Service was friendly too. This was a new place for me... but I'll be going back.

I came here almost everyday during my stay in Ouaga for their delicious beef brochettes and fried plantain chips. There is a wonderful courtyard where you can sit outside in the evening under the trees by candlelight. During the day there is an inside area with strong aircon. The staff is exceptionally friendly. I would even call them from my moped with an order so that it would be ready by the time I got there. I also loved the neighborhood they are in with interesting markets nearby as well as an upscale residential neighborhood called Petit Paris which was interesting to walk around. I still dream about my food there....

Have regularly visited Paradisio over the years because of the convenience of location, and I have a few favorite dishes like the gratin de capitaine aux épinards or potato surprise, but sometimes I've been put off for a while because of various reasons like sickness afterwards (now just never order anything uncooked so no longer a problem), the noise and pollution at busy times since it's right on a main road, and the long time waiting for your order if you're not alone. They have a large range so everyone can be happy. They seem to have a thriving pizza home delivery service with prices a bit cheaper than some other restaurants in the area. Not much of an atmosphere, but convenient.

After reading all the good reviews of this place, it really did not meet our expectations. I guess everything is relative, and after you've been in the village for a while, the food here would no doubt seem a pretty good change from rice & sauce. But after all the other restos we've been to in Ouaga, I'd just class this as a "maquis amélioré".Located next to the Zogona Market (northwest side across from the butchers' corner), this restaurant consists of a converted house & courtyard with both indoor and outdoor seating. It offers a good selection of the regular menu items found in these kinds of restos, not all of which are available all the time, of course! Except for the pizzas. They have 27 different kinds of pizza listed. The pizzas look good and taste okay, but in my opinion lack the quality and taste of those I've come to expect after places like the Verdoyant and Terra Nostra.Service is friendly and surprisingly fast (only 30 minutes for pizza).Pizza delivery by Edmond is available.Open every day from 12h00 - 15h00 and 18h00 - 23h00

I've been here a few times with groups of colleagues. It's a terrific place for a festive group dinner, whether indoors or in the garden. I'd classify the food as good, not extraordinary, but more than balanced by having a really nice, relaxed evening with good service and a varied menu for all to enjoy.
