Discover Restaurants offering the best African food in Lalibela, Amhara Region, Ethiopia. Lalibela (Amharic: ላሊበላ) is a town in Amhara Region, northern Ethiopia famous for monolithic rock-cut churches. The whole of Lalibela offers an exceptional testimony to the medieval and post-medieval civilization of Ethiopia. Lalibela is one of Ethiopia's holiest cities, second only to Aksum, and a center of pilgrimage. Unlike Aksum, the population of Lalibela is almost completely Ethiopian Orthodox Christian. Ethiopia was one of the earliest nations to adopt Christianity in the first half of the fourth century, and its historical roots date to the time of the Apostles. The churches themselves date from the seventh to thirteenth centuries, and are traditionally dated to the reign of the Zagwe dynasty king Gebre Mesqel Lalibela (r. ca. 1181–1221 AD).

Enjoyed a great lunch. Covered patio on top floor. Great injera and amazing juice smoothies. Worth the time for fresh preparation. Included pictures of menu for idea of pricing. 30 birr for fresh juice, including avocado juice. So good. Follow the signs to the 7 Olives Restaurant, right across the street and much better food and pricing. Worth the trip up the very steep steps.

Admittedly, this was my hotel restaurant so eating here was easy but there are many choices and I came back her regularly. This is part restaurant and part culinary school. They offered a wide variety of western and Ethiopian dishes. While staying there, one night there was a power failure and they still put together an outstanding dinner. Real troopers.

This place has been one of my favorite places that I have been during my search for better places to enjoy dinning out and drinks. As the name implies, they serve Traditional Ethiopian Food and in addition, coffee ceremony and drinks of all sorts of Ethiopian Beers and wine can be found here. It is new place to be in Lalibela. Enjoy Your Time in Lalibela!...

This restaurant where I had lunch at the top of the town has average service, food, but has a wonderful view (more than 2800 meters height) on down bellow mountain landscape. Lalibela is hard to reach with a bus, or a car. Roads are deeply holed, travelling is long from Addis or Mekele. Bus and even taxis, cars stop riding at 6 P.M. If I had to do again, I would travel by plane. If by chance you travelled to Ethiopia with Ethiopian airlines you can get a fair price from anywhere in Ethiopia.

We stayed here for two nights. On our second night we were told there would be a buffet with dancing. Not sure how often these take place however it was really good fun and the food was fine. The dancers ensured that everyone who was up for it danced, the guys and girls dancing were so fit unlike ourselves.Food was standard buffet but edible. Great night had by all who attended.

Maed means full range of traditional Ethiopian food which would be served in an Ethiopian home. The Restaurant is immaculately clean and we rigorously enforce all the up date hygiene regulations.
After travelling a month throughout Ethiopia we can say this is one of the best meals we had. Apart from the food which is absolutely great (grilled dishes and local ethiopian), the atmosfere is great as well. Great hospitality with traditional dance and possibly free local liquor.Dear Guest,Thank you very much for giving your time to review my restaurant . Your review is so genuine and it will help us to keep serving the fresh and organic ingredients to my customers .I hope i will see you again at my restaurant .Best wishes Zewdu

This is a new restaurant which I visited several times on a recent visit to Lalibela. It is an amazing structure and serves excellent food as well as having wonderful loos.
That was my first reaction when I saw the place! Magical eatery perched on a hill with far reaching views and magnificent 10 foot wingspan lammergeiers making close passes. Lovely Scottish owner with a credit card machine that works - must be a first for Lalibela. Go before 12:00 when the tourist lunch rush starts - itâs a very popular place and for good reason.

A 'hole in the wall' could feel downgraded by the looks of this place. But the hostess is welcoming, and the food is some of the best we had during our two weeks in Ethiopia. No wonder this place is packed with locals and travellers. We came in the fasting period, and the hostess apologised for only having vegetarian food. No reason for any apology: it was excellent!
