Find out what African restaurants to try in Fes. The oldest university in the world isn’t Oxford or the Sorbonne—it’s the University of Al-Karaouine, and you’ll find it in Fes el Bali. This walled city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will transport you back to medieval times. Visit the ancient maze-like quarters of the Medina to Fes el-Bali and the four imposing Gates of Fes, with their distinctive Moroccan tile work. You can walk, or, if you're brave, take a taxi—the daredevil drivers will have you hanging on for dear life.

Chez Hakim is a family owned restaurant in a great location near the entrance to the old medina of Fes. The food is truly fabulous at a very reasonable price!! I frequent this restaurant often and love their tajines and fresh fruit juice! The staff are very friendly and welcoming! I highly recommend Chez Hakim!

The Riad itself is very pleasant and not too hard to find (which is not always the case in Fes )The cooking is traditional Moroccan and the dinner is whatever they are serving that evening, so there's no choice. But what they served us was very good : soup and salads, an excellent chicken tajine and a pastry-based dessert. Including a bottle of wine and tip we paid 620 MADService was excellent, but you expect that everywhereYou need to book before noon for that evening. They don't have many tables for those who are not staying in the Riad

Restaurant Dar Tajine is a Restaurant located in the heart of the old medina in Fes City, which offers a unique cuisine in a historical house with high quality food and service. Our dishes are prepared with the love and history of our big family. We put a
We read about this in Trip Advisor, podition 12 with hundred of positive reviews. It took us more than 40 minutes to find the place since there is not even one sign in the street to lead you to the restaurant. The restaurant is located in a roof bathed with the smelly air coming from the nearby tanneries. So, prepare for that. There is nothing special about the roof, it actually looks bad for a restaurant so high in trip advisor rankings, it is so bad that you wonder if this is an improvised pop up trying to scam people. For the same amount of money you can have lunch in a beautiful riad. Now, the food. We were scared by how bad the place looked but we were hoping the food maybe would be amazing. We live in Rabat so we know about Moroccan food, a lot. We ordered "vegetarien pastilla" and "tajine poulet citron". Two dishes we have tried more than 20 times each. The pastilla was a bad joke. This dish is usually filled with chicken. We ordered the veggie version since it sounded interesting. This veggie version had no veggies at all, the pastilla was filled with fried scrambled eggs that had no flavor at all. No seasoning, no nothing, just eggs.Really? A pastilla filled with scrambled egg is not a vegetarien pastilla. Now for the "Tajine Poulet Citron" or the Chicken Lemon Tajine. This is our favorite Moroccan dish, we have eaten this dish more than 20 times in a lot of restaurants in all Morocco. The Tajine Poulet Citron of this restaurant is by far, really by far, the worst we have tried ever in Morocco. There was no flavor at all in the chicken. Even worst, the sauce of the tajine had also no flavor at all. And this is really something, this dish's sauce has turmeric and ginger among other things so it is very hard to get a sauce without flavor. We are still wondering how they managed to make it so bad. Take my word, avoid this place, this was the worst meal of our first 8 months in Morocco. If you are sure you ate here, prove to me a picture or anything to make sure you ate us. It is not reasonable. I am a person who ate with hundreds of comments. He did not say to us like what you say. You have only one comment. This is proof that you are a liar.

We wanted a simple, tasty meal and we got it! The staff was very friendly and welcoming in a genuine way. They let us pick and choose off the menu to accommodate our appetites with more than fare prices. It was quiet, intimate and easy going. We will return there before we leave Fez!

Moroccan Cuisine
I previously wrote a review of the restaurant on their hotel page, so I am reposting it here on the restaurant page. After reading reviews and seeing this spot on some travel blogs, we booked a rooftop dinner expecting the best. Sadly, the experience was very mediocre and the views not that great. Coming from Riad Le Calife which has a much better view and menu, we were disappointed to waste one of our nights in Fes on this restaurant. We found the food to be a little bland - we ordered to couscous with Moroccan salads. I would not recommend this place overall.

Restaurant Ouliya located in the heart of the old Medina of Fes, yet close to city center and most of the beautiful attractions.
If you visit Fes, you must dine at Restaurant Ouliya. This restaurant is located in Riad Ouliya, inside the Médina. We stayed at the Riad and dined there each evening. The authentic Moroccan food was absolutely delicious! The restaurant is open to all, not just for those who stay at the Riad. Itâs rated #6 in Fes, so make sure you add this restaurant to your list.

Welcome to our Moroccan coffee restaurant Al Oud we present a different type of Tagine and typical food from all over Morocco we would like to share our experience with people from all over the world to check our special tasty food.
Stopped by here while walking through the Médina, has a nice little view down the street and some outdoor seating to get amongst it. The food was great and perfect lunch portions. Much better food than the over popular tourist trap style stores closer to the blue gate. Worth the short stroll to reach it!
