Things to do in Miyoshi
Senkichi (仙吉) is a truly unique find deeply hidden in the steep ravines of the Higashi-Iya valley. Traditional 'lunchtime only' soba dishes with no binders or added flour, just pure 'hand-ground each morning' soba (pure soba must be consumed the day it is made), set in an interior beautifully adorned from floor to rafter from the remains of 500 year old “Ochiudo Buraku (fleeing warriors' hamlet)'' houses that dot the valley. The dining tables are antique soba noodle manufacturing tables and the view down the valley towards Oboke Station is absolutely breathtaking. Cold and hot soba dishes are on offer, as well as a selection of dishes for the non-soba inclined, all served with the local sweet citrus known as 'sudachi'. On a chilly day, be sure to take a place at the 'Iror', a traditional floor hearth underneath the dining table, to warm you up. The well-traveled, charming and friendly proprietor and his wife are true Heiki Clan ancestors, that the region offered respite to over 1,000 years ago from the marauding clans of Honshu, and who speak excellent English. The owner is generous with information on what to see, where to stay and the history of the region. Japan is renowned for its highly refined regional cuisines and this local delicacy is a must have in this its most pure and rural interpretation that is reflective of the unique culture of this hidden valley region. In the area, this is a must stop, well hidden along the highway into Oboke and just up the road from Hikkyo-no-Yu Onsen in the lower Nishi-Iya section of the valley, just look for the climbing Ninja !

This building has been re-built over 200 years ago and the floor plan is three-room parallel, and it is an old-fashoned called “Seigai Building” which an unparalleled building. It features a steep roof with snowfall in mind and a sense of openness due to
This is small local market, old fashioned style. They have many Iya spoecialty like tofu and konnyaku. Also they have fresh vegetable, snacks and bento lunchbox. The owner woman was so nice! She talk with us long time and explain many things. But she speaking only Japanese, so I translate for my friend.

Please take your time eating while looking at the vast Iya Valley
I stayed in an inn in a land of mystery and Sodani hot spring! An outdoor hotspring bath is the wonderful location which comes down to 250m bottom of the valley by cable car! The outdoor hotspring bath was best! A Chinese tourist was besides the Japanese, too.

Situated beautifully in the countryside, Yamauchi counts as one of the best noodle shops to visit. Don't expect "Western Style" eating, it is simple, on a sunny day, you may even sit outside along the paddy fields at the roadside. A perfect place to have a break when travelling.
