Lin An Tai Historical House & Museum

One of the few remaining old Taipei homes, this charming building was meticulously dismantled and rebuilt on new land in 1984.

The Lin An-tai House is in Binjiang Park, it is quite easy to find and worth the walk from Yuanshan MRT Station on the Red (Tamshui-Xinyi) Line. This house is one of the oldest traditional houses in the Taipei area. It has been beautifully restored and gives a good idea of an ideal farming family house from days gone by. The house has an auspicious layout and good fengshui. It's cool in summer and warm in winter. The house, which is some 200 years old, is built in Fujian style, with red bricks and terra cotta tiles. It's well worth a visit.

Taipei people like dogs but finding somewhere to walk Fido can be difficult. There lots of room for dog walkers along the Keelung River between Zhongshan Bridge and Dazhi Bridge. If you want, you can hire a bicycle, or even skateboard, though I prefer walking. There's a water spout that comes to life for half an hour, every hour, on the hour.

Shih Chien University

The minimalist buildings of Shih Chien University (SCU) were completed using the emerging “exposed concrete surface method” that primarily leaves concrete structures unpainted and un-tiled after the casting mold is removed, to preserve the natural texture of the construction materials (bare concrete, exposed aggregate, steel, glass and metals) in a harmonious architectural fashion. The method, using bare concrete is as the main material, has been applied to the Tung-Min Memorial Hall that houses the College of Design, the revamped Library and Information Building, and the new Sport Center. Students from the Department of Fashion Design, an academic highlight of SCU, are able to freely present their works in multiple venues around the department building, such as the stairwells, bathrooms, or anywhere else they please, in pursuit of their creative vision.

Hsing Tian Kong

Hsing Tian Gong honours Guan Yu, the patron saint of businessmen. The construction is relatively new; it was erected in 1967. "Ghost money" is no longer burnt at the temple, in an effort to reduce air pollution in the city. It is not as venerable as Lungshan Temple, but it is a lot cleaner.

SPOT-Taipei(Taipei Film House)

A quaint garden long deserted has been renovated with the goal of revitalizing the historic site and become the place where dreams come true.Taiwan Film & Culture Association defines the core value of the Taipei Film House as "a site combining the quaint charm of a historic site and cinematography and providing a locus for creative interactions" It is hoped that this place will serve as a watering hole for local creative artists, a place where creativity takes flight. Interdisciplinary ideas may be exchanged through diverse activities including film festivals, seminars, and workshops, in order to inspire more creative thinking. It is highly expected that a brand new look may emerge through the integration of the historic site and cinematography, fusing the historical significance therein with visual arts, and thus broaden our cultural field of view and cultivate a profound sense of culture.

SPOT Taipei is a very popuar place to hang out for TaIpei's intelligencia. It has great cafes and films to watch. It was constructed in the Japanese colonial period (1895-1945) in the style of a southern US antebellum mansion. It acted as both a US consulate and after as the US ambassador's residence. This role ceased when the US recognised Beijing in 1979.

Jingfugong

Reviewed By reginafug - Mossel Bay, South Africa

We found Jingfu temple while walking in Zhongshan neighborhood, as we were staying in the Aloft Zhongshan. This is a Taoist temple, built in the city, surrounded by many tall buildings. It's clear it is a definite neighborhood temple where locals flow in and out during the course of the day, but it does not seem crowded. Not many many tourists appear to visit, but we were clearly invited come in, explore the wonderful architecture and see the deities. Jingfu temple can be reached by rapid transit. It is about a 5 minute walk from the National Xiaoshan MRT Station. In spite of being a Taoist temple, it exhibitsthere strong Chinese characteristics. The entrance is quite beautiful, and a very large metal incinerator (for lack of a better word) greets the visitors. Here, offerings are burnt. The temple has grown over time, and the last refurbishment was in 2000. There are three floors. An elevator is available. The marble, the wood carvings, the beautiful orchids by the altars are stunning. The keepers motioned us to look around and take pictures. I wish I could speak the language and converse with the lovely temple keepers, and understand more about the temple.

MAJI Square

Near the Taipei Fine Arts Museum and is nestled in the Taipei Expo Park’s Yuanshan Park Area. Meticulously planned by popular Taiwanese recording artist, Harlem Yu, and well-known Taiwanese designer, Eugene Yeh, cargo containers and wooden barns are incorporated with the site’s natural setting, with diverse elements of gastronomy, creative goods, music, and art ingeniously brought together.

If you alight from the MRT as Yuan Shan Station (Red Line) you will find the Expo Park. At the heart of the Expo Park is the MAJI Square. It has winding paths, benches and a food court. The food court has many varieties of food, including American Mexican Chilean, Indian and Mexican. Many cafes pop up from time to time, although Taiwanese seems to be the most popular. There's also a craft beer tap-room, with local and imported beers, MAJI Square comes alive at night, there's always lot to do.
