We visited Sicily for approx a month in January. We decided not to drive ourselves and used a company called Taormina Transfer. They are extremely flexible and will do as little as transfer you from Catania airport to Taormina or arrange a trip all around Sicily with day tours like they did for us. Always on time and very pleasant. Maria and Massimo were great and nothing was too much trouble. We highly recommend them.

Sicily is beautiful and very different. Definitely a place to return. Though would not advise to stay in Giardini Naxos, the only benefit being sandy beaches.

First off, I booked this tour December 30th at about 8:30pm via Viator fir Dec 31st tour. The operator emailed me right away to clarify things that made the tour go smoothly. When we arrived in Catania at 5:40 early in the morning, our driver Danilo was was waiting for us already. We had an early start, meaning our time was not wasted at all. When we reached in Taormina, I asked Danilo to check if we can add done of the Godfather places to check and he called his boss right away and was confirmed we can do it. I was happy and appreciated the flexibility. We were able to check the places that I wanted to go. Just a reminder, our driver is not a licensed tourist guide but he tells us where to go and drop us off and pick us up like “door to door”. I would suggest to google the best places to visit and tell the driver what you most like to visit and read all about it. You will appreciate more if you know the story behind that particular area. This tour works perfectly for us. Thank you Danilo for doing above and beyond of what you are doing. Cheers!

With this excursion we will reach one of the most beautiful viewpoints of the Etna volcano to admire the sweet beauty of the sunrise. The Sartorius Mountains (1,720 m) will be the place where we will wait for the sunrise. They are ancient craters formed during the 1865 eruption. The name is a tribute to Wolfgang Sartorius von Waltershausen, the first scientist to catalog the eruptions of the volcano in the 19th century. From the Sartorius Mountains we will move to the Grotta della Neve, a small lava flow tunnel used in the past as a snow mill (place where snow was kept for the summer season). The last leg of the tour will take us to Case Pietracannone. From the structure we will follow the path to Monte Fontane, crossing the lava fields of the eruptions of 1950-51 and 1979. Reached the top of the mountain (1,278 m), in front of us the panorama will open on the vast black sea of the Valle del Bove. Returning to the meeting point we will thank our guests with a typical Sicilian breakfast.
Inclusions: Transfer with 4WD, Typical breakfast with granita and brioches
Exclusions: Lunch
We did the ‘Etna Three Thousand’ guided tour, meeting at the coffee bar at 0830. Our guide was Giacomo, who was absolutely fantastic! He drove us to the cable car, where we ascended part way up the mountain, and then trekked up the rest. Giacomo took us to where we could look out and see the towns and villages - and clouds - way below the mountain. He brought us to the edge of a crater where we could run all the way down. I was a bit nervous about doing this but the volcanic sand was very soft and this was so much fun! While we rested at the bottom of the crater Giacomo gave us refreshments and explained more about the mountain. He really knows the history and geology of the mountain. We continued on to where we could watch the volcano erupting at a safe distance, then trekked to another crater, where he brought us down and let us experience how hot it was. Giacomo really took care of us, giving us better jackets to wear on top of what we brought. The wind made it rather cold, so this was very much appreciated. He also lent us more appropriate hiking shoes. Overall this trek took us almost 5 hours and was the highlight of our time in Sicily! I highly recommend this company (and Giacomo!) — David D., from Washington DC, USA
