Hidden gems of Yucatan, such as Tulum, Akumal, Chetumal, Chichen Itza and Merida, offer an authentic taste of Mexico. Akumal and more Caribbean-style Chetumal, near the Belize border, deliver delectable white-sand beaches and great snorkelling. Merida, Chichen Itza and Tulum, with their ancient ruins, offer a passage into the Yucatanâs native history. Nature lovers can jungle trek and swim in subterranean sinkholes filled with crystal-clear water. Bike around the ruins and hop between towns in colectivo vans.

Laura's Quizzes are fun tests of trivia and general knowledge, with a friendly atmosphere. We have questions from a range of subjects, some are easy, others can be a little tricky! It is designed for all nationalities and ages to have a go! Come along alone, or play as a team and meet new friends in Playa del Carmen. Every Tuesday at 6:30pm
This quiz is a challenge for your mind while also being a fantastic social event. I’ve visited Playa several times, now staying here a bit longer, and I’ve met some great friends by attending this quiz. Laura is a delightful host, with excellent questions and the venue offers a great service during the night. My favourite round is the music round, but really I no longer go to win, rather to hang out with my friends!

I went to Noche Mexicana alone as I was solo traveling in Merida, and had a blast. Take an uber to Remate de Pasaje Montejo. I arrive just at 8pm on a Saturday in June and there were already ancianos performing a traditional Mexican folkloric dance. The seats weren't quite full but as the night wore on more and more people filled the seats. I highly recommend trying the marquesitas from the street vendors (this is a traditional crepe-like desert, served with queso or nutella or combinado if you want both. You shouldn't pay more than 30 pesos for 1 combinado.) I also bought magnets and an infant dress for my younger cousin from the vendors. For pricier items, haggling is acceptable. I speak Spanish, so if you speak English expect gringo prices from some of the vendors that don't have items labeled. I recommend going to vendors where prices are labeled to get the best price if you don't speak Spanish -- because they cannot inflate the price for you.

Enjoy a spectacular battle between pirates in the Caribbean sea of the Riviera Maya. Clashing of swords, amazing acrobatics, exploding cannons, amazing fireworks and interactive comedy show will make you part of a real life pirate adventure! Sail aboard a replica of the Santa Maria Galleon and enjoy a delicious Steak and Lobster, special little pirate kids menu, premium open bar and more! Ahoy to the Jolly Roger Pirate Show in Cancun!
With all the cool things we did while in Cancun, this ended up being my teens favorite. They did a spectacular show and dinner was good. Our personal pirate Norman did an excellent job taking care of us. Anyone that loves a good dinner show, I highly recommend the Jolly Roger. Please note, you do sail for the 3 hours, so if you get motion sick at all, take medicine (or just drink a lot while on board).

BUY TICKETS ONLINE before hand so you can get FRONT ROW seats. For the summer show, the gates open at 8:00 pm (no earlier). You will be given an iPod and you have 1 hour to walk through many of the ruins, which are lit-up, with a guided tour. BRING HEADPHONES (we were on of the only ones able to enjoy this because we had headphones). The show starts at 9:00 pm. The show is in Spanish, but will be translated into many different languages if you have those headphones! ;-) Seeing the ruins at night in contrast with the stars was an unforgettable experience! Made us realize why the Mayans were so obsessed with the sky!
