Things to do in Yorkshire, England: The Best Events

March 19, 2022 Jana Sager

Yorkshire (/ˈjɔːrkʃər, -ʃɪər/; abbreviated Yorks), formally known as the County of York, is a historic county of Northern England and the largest in the United Kingdom. Due to its great size in comparison to other English counties, functions have been undertaken over time by its subdivisions, which have also been subject to periodic reform. Throughout these changes, Yorkshire has continued to be recognised as a geographical territory and cultural region. The name is familiar and well understood across the United Kingdom and is in common use in the media and the military, and also features in the titles of current areas of civil administration such as North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and East Riding of Yorkshire.

Leeds Festival

Leeds Festival is one of the biggest rock festivals in the UK. Past line-ups have included Status Quo, Alice Cooper, Meat Loaf, Nirvana and Eminem. It’s held every year on the August Bank Holiday Weekend at the same time as the Reading Festival and acts go between then two locations. The moshing and crowd surfing makes this the perfect festival for any rockers!

Drove over from Leeds and around just after opening time 0930 on a Sunday mainly to get parked up. There were a few people about and the stalls open. The market is not one of them generic German types which sell junk from China with the pretense of been German, the stalls sell great craft gifts from wooden watches to locally Yorkshire Chorizo and much more. The area is very cramped though and the layout not overly great for crowd flow, it doesn't take many coach loads of visitors to fill it but by 11am we were done and it was by then getting far to busy to enjoy. We loved it though overall, the produce from local suppliers and businesses made it for us, far better than the tat markets usually thrown up these days.
