Yorkshire (/ˈjɔːrkʃər, -ʃɪər/; abbreviated Yorks), formally known as the County of York, is a historic county of Northern England and the largest in the United Kingdom. Due to its great size in comparison to other English counties, functions have been undertaken over time by its subdivisions, which have also been subject to periodic reform. Throughout these changes, Yorkshire has continued to be recognised as a geographical territory and cultural region. The name is familiar and well understood across the United Kingdom and is in common use in the media and the military, and also features in the titles of current areas of civil administration such as North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and East Riding of Yorkshire.

Take your cooking to a new level whilst enjoying the Yorkshire Wolds landscape. Located on a private farm 6 miles from Driffield, The Yorkshire Wolds Cookery School aims to show you how to make superb food and have fun in a relaxed setting. The School has been finished to a high specification but retains a warm and homely feel. There is no need to share on our day classes, we have plenty of blenders for everyone! There are 4 island cooking stations each with a Falcon Rangemaster induction hob and double oven. One of the stations can be lowered to accommodate people who may prefer to sit. We offer bespoke Cook and Dine experiences and, as an option, stay with us in one of our 9 luxury B & B rooms. These full or half days are ideal for hen parties, families or business groups looking for something a bit different. We offer courses for adults and children from Thai Entertaining to Michelin Star Cooking and are an Approved Activity Provider for the Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award.
Our 2 children had a wonderful time on the activity day for 7 - 12 year olds. They enjoyed all the cooking and craft, and came home with delicious food all ready for dinner, so no cooking for me that night - perfect! I would thoroughly recommend the courses at the cookery school if you want to learn new skills, get some great recipe inspiration or just to build confidence. The children have been busy baking at home since the course, its lovely to see them enjoying cooking so much (just wish the washing up fairies lived here!). Thanks again to everyone for another fabulous day x

We spent half a day learning to cook Thai Street Food. The place was very Covid safe at all times. The chef was extremely knowledgeable about Thai cooking and the food we made was very authentic. We will definitely return to do a different course at some point and would thoroughly recommend a visit to anyone. I quite like the look of the knife skills course next......

Just got back from pork pie making course with Jacqui and Carole , what a delightful day , I would thoroughly recommend this course a really good mix of a relaxed enjoyable atmosphere combined with excellent teaching techniques and spot on technical knowledge , exactly what I was looking for . Very good basic principles and lots of tips that can only be given by someone who has years of experience in their subject . Very easy to find as although the setting seems remote in a converted barn on a Yorkshire hillside which itself is a thing of beauty it is an easy drive form the M1. Fabulous lunch very enjoyable experience.

Swinton Park is the ancestral home of the Earl of Swinton, owned and run by the Cunliffe-Lister family. Set in 200 acres of parkland on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, the castle combines the style and elegance of a stately home with the comfort and exemplary service of a luxury hotel. The Cookery School at Swinton Park has been running since 2003 and has consistently achieved high acclaim, most recently as a finalist in British Cookery School Awards 2012. Located on the ground floor of the Georgian stable wing adjacent to Swinton Park hotel, the teaching kitchen is a light and airy room, furnished in country-kitchen style and fitted with the latest appliances and equipment. The cookery school also benefits the hotel’s location at the heart of the 20,000 acre Swinton Estate. The Estate supplies the cookery school and hotel with game birds, venison and foraged ingredients such as elderflower, wild garlic and wild mushrooms, while, closer to the hotel, the four acre Walled Garden provides a wide range of fruit and vegetables throughout the year.Stephen Bulmer joined the cookery school as Chef Director in January 2013. He is also is widely acknowledged to be one the leading cookery school tutors in the UK, having been Chef Director of the Raymond Blanc Cookery School at Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons for 6 years and also run his own cookery school at Brook Hall in Buckinghamshire. He combines his top-level cookery skills with a gregarious personality - a winning combination. ’He is one of my most experienced chefs and a great craftsman – his enthusiasm is completely infectious’, commented Raymond Blanc.Whilst his career has taken him to work at Michelin restaurants all over the world, Stephen hails from Yorkshire and so has returned to his roots. He spent his childhood in a village on the North Yorkshire Moors, with his first cooking job at The Goathland Hotel before going on to train at The Box Tree in Ilkley.Stephen has created a schedule of half day, one day and two day courses at Swinton Park, which are open to residents and non-residents of all levels of ability. Courses cover a wide range of cuisines and techniques, with themes ranging from Flavours of the Orient to Regional French Cuisine, Barbecue Cookery to Delicious Desserts and Tapas to Bread Making. There are also courses for children, teenagers and professional chefs. Guest chefs teaching occasional classes include celebrity chef Rosemary Shrager and number of other specialists running courses such as Wild About Food (foraging for wild edible ingredients) and a monthly Curry Club. We have two courses for Christmas cooking – Festive Fare and the innovative ‘Christmas in a Box’, which includes a meal for six to take home. The cookery school also provides a relaxed, informal setting for Chef’s Table demonstration dining evenings, where Stephen prepares and serves a gourmet meal in front of you. The school is also available for private hire and for corporate, incentive and team-building events.
Had a great experience at Swinton Cookery School cooking Middle Eastern cuisine in a half day cookery class. Set in the gorgeous Swinton Estate in a nice sized traditionally designed kitchen. The chef created a really nice comfortable atmosphere, with the class aimed probably more at beginner / intermediate cooks which was about right for me. The chef displayed a lot of skill and experience and was really friendly and personable offering tips throughout the day. The menu we created was really nice, even managed to enjoy the aubergine that featured heavily, which I don't usually like, so I guess that's proof the food we cooked was tasty and well thought out. The half-day class gave us just enough time to create a light 3-course lunch menu so we learnt plenty along the way. Equipment was all top-notch and plenty to go around in a class of about 12. The only real piece of constructive feedback is that we had to work in pairs, personally I'd have preferred working on my own so I could have fully prepared and cooked my own dish. This wasn't a huge deal though as still got to do a lot in the time we had. Overall would definitely recommend.

A friendly and inclusive environment to learn recipes and cooking techniques, we can accommodate up to a maximum of 10 students at a time, socially distanced in a comfortable setting. A place to cook, eat, drink and enjoy a great day out while focusing on great Yorkshire produce with fish from the East Coast, game from the Moors and meat from across the county. Courses ranging from classic seafood to home baking and everything in between, something for everyone of all ages and skill level. Located in the heart of Malton at Talbot Yard forms part of a great day out in Yorkshire's Food Capital. Great for yourself, as a couple, a gift for others or a group of friends together, The Cooks Place is a great place to develop your passion for cooking or learn some essential life skills (over a glass of wine of course).
We visited the Malton cookery school on Saturday 4th may to take part in the Yorkshire meats cookery course. This was a Christmas present for my partner who was slightly on edge about what to expect really. We were welcomed very warmly by Gilly who was absolutely fantastic. We expressed to Gilly that we had wished to stay the evening and sit at the chef’s table that evening. Gilly was so helpful and helped find us a local hotel to stay in, and also squeezed us on to the chef’s table. The meats cooking class was amazing and so informative. I and my partner learnt so much, especially what to do with a full chicken and how to not waste any bits. I would highly recommend this course to anyone of any skills set because Gilly guides you through the whole way and is there to help you. In the evening we did the chef’s table at the cookery school. On Saturday evening it was 2 young Malaysian chef’s from the company ‘Mak Tok’. The boys were absolutely fantastic and the food was delicious! There was a great night had by all with everyone socialising really well, and a complete range of ages and people. Malton itself is absolutely beautiful and is such a fantastic little town. We can’t wait to revisit, do another cookery course and take part in another chef’s table. We will be revisiting to attend the farmers market Too. Can not recommend this place enough. We wish we lived closer because we would be there monthly for the chef’s tables. Great day, experience and value for money.

The mission of Junior Kitchen is to bring children and parents together through the force that is baking and cooking. The world would be a lesser place without these brilliant skills.
We had a great morning baking chocolate buns and chocolate pizza with Alexa. It was very covid safe with lots of hand washing and cleaning. The kids had a great time and we will definitely be back soon!
