Inishbiggle Island Ferry Service

Reviewed By elizabethsZ6616DW

We were brought by the lovely Joe O'Malley over to Inishbiggle in his beautiful currach and it was like stepping into the world of an Ireland long forgotten. It is a beautiful tranquil place just a few minutes away from Achill in the boat but a world apart. Take some drinks and walking gear and wander the lanes with some inhabited farms and some forgotten in time. The boat trip was easy and lovely and Joe even took a detour on the way back to show us a seal "ag cru na greine" on a rock off Dugort. A fabulous experience for all the family - including the doggy!

Prepare for a warm Irish welcome as you board the luxury Aran Island Ferries boat (including a full bar and refreshment service) from the sheltered fishing harbour of Rossaveel (Ros a’ Mhíl) in Connemara. Owned by the O’Briens, this family has an enduring relationship with the Aran Islands since they began to trade turf there in the 1900s. I was offered a tour to the Aran Islands via the Aran Island Ferries as a supplement from my tour advisor. Since I have years of experience riding ferries ( former 40 year Seattle native) I was missing being out on the water. I had a terrific ride, found the constant reminders of "mind the door" so I wouldn't knock myself silly (I'm very tall, 6'2" ) and found the crew very helpful to passengers on boarding and disembarking, up and down the ramps, etc. Watching the coastlines and islands, seabirds, smelling the salt air, feeling the swells all felt very familiar and I was beyond happy that I had chosen this day trip. The Aran islands and our home to Dun Aengus was the icing on the cake of an enchanting day. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone enjoying sea trips and great historical experiences.

Whiddy Island Ferry

Reviewed By FarranBoy62 - Dublin, Ireland

Finally, made the trip and walked the entire island over a 4 hour period with some friends. Tim, the boatman, give us an impromptu overview as we disembarked and there are good maps and signage at different vantage points around the island. Island scenery is not as stunning as Bere or Dursey island but there are wonderful views across to the Beara peninsula to the north and to the Sheep's Head peninsula to the south. The oil storage tanks dominate one part of the island but are totally unobtrusive from most parts of the walk.
