Things to do in Western Cape, South Africa: The Best Golf Courses

February 9, 2022 Leida Jutras

South Africa’s most popular tourist destination offers the urban thrills of Cape Town, its adjacent wine country and an aura of the rich political history of South Africa. The Overberg's perfect whale-watching perches provide excitement of a different nature. The Garden Route's lakes and forests and the Klein Karoo's ostrich-farming towns and vineyards present another take on the Cape. For extra kicks, try bungee jumping or cage-diving among Great Whites.

Another fantastic golf course with some amazing views and back drops, the course was in excellent condition and is very challenging, pick your tee boxes wisely, this went straight into my top 20 of golf courses played, the clubhouse and food was very good as was the staff, a must play if you are near. Very well maintained course. Very welcoming staff. Caddies are a great help when you don't know the route. COVID regulations are perfectly followed. Only one negative point, the price for a 9 hole course. No reciprocal rates if you are a member of another club. But the quality of the infrastructure makes you forget these elements.

Lovely course in good condition unlike its neighbour at Pezula. Great layout but not for the feint hearted. We were a gents 4 ball but were held up on every hole by a senior gent in front of us. His lady partner was able to move quickly but the course was too difficult for him to walk from buggy to green and back at any speed. It was very slow because the buggies were kept well away from the greens so a lot of steep walking was still required. Fair doos to the guy : he never gave up!

I have played all courses in and around Cape Town in the past 20 years. Many of them are beautiful and well maintained. Putting all aspects of a great golf course together, maintenance, sportive challence, service, staff, clubhouse, halfway house, food & beverage, accesability and many more, this is the no.1. This course however, requires a good talent in golf and sportive endurance. The wind is a major factor that can play a serious role in your score. - I love this place and will come back any time. This is a perfect combination of all that needs to fit together for my judgement.

Swellendam Golf Course

We played the course several times on our stay in Swellendam and really enjoyed it. We were surprised at how challenging and beautiful it was. Was in great shape - especially considering they hadn't had much rain. Mark and the other staff members were welcoming, friendly and accommodating. Had some lunch - toastie and a footlong hotdog and both were excellent and VERY well priced! Will definitely play again on our next trip through Swellendam.
