West Virginia hosts outdoor enthusiasts and family vacationers looking for fresh-air activities and serene mountain atmosphere. If stimulating city holidays are your preference, Charleston combines warm hospitality with a lovely riverside location. A family-friendly destination, you’ll discover children’s theatre, river park recreation and popular Bridge Road for shopping and dining. Smaller towns blend outdoor adventure with quaint village atmospheres. Set between the New, Greenbrier and Bluestone Rivers, Hinton is an historic rail town filled with turn-of-the-century architecture and a host of water activities at its doorstep – rafting, fishing, kayaking and more. In the heart of West Virginia, Summersville is a “Mountain Water Playground.” Its lakeside location encourages outdoor recreation from swimming and boating to scuba diving and rafting. And history buffs can trace Civil War battles throughout the states historic sites and state parks. Hiking or horseback riding along trails through deep hardwood forests is another family favorite, especially when you stop for a picnic along a clear mountain stream.

One of the things I miss the most during this time of covid is seeing live theater at GVT!! The quality of acting and choice of plays is fantastic. I love the local actors mix with professional actors, the quality is amazing. I love local writers being showcased too! I highly recommend! Go away covid, we want GVT back!!

We were away from home and decided to make a small drive to see a Christmas show and dinner. They served a good dinner with excellent service. We were very pleased with the performers and extremely pleased that they kept Christ in their Christmas show.

We loved our experience at Wonderment Puppet Theater! The owner Joe is so much fun and provided a most excellent experience for our family. The theatre is so colorful and quirky and fun fun fun with so much for all ages--the adults loved all the memorabilia and our 3 year old (and the teenagers too!) enjoyed all the hands-on, interactive activities. The puppet show was so very enjoyable as well. I have been wanting to check this place out for quite awhile and visiting family for the holiday was a great excuse. I highly recommend a visit for families!

This amazing gem happens during 3 weeks each July in Shepherdstown, WV. 6 plays are presented in repertory in 3 theater spaces, two of which are purpose-built arena spaces, allowing one to see all plays in a 3 day visit. There are also discussions, talks, and often the reading of a new work being developed for the next season. 2020 will be the Festival's 30th season. This is fully professional theatre of high quality that is intensely engaging. The founding Artistic Director, Ed Herenden, is dedicated to developing new works of American Theater. This mission is even reflected in the Festival's name, as it uses the American spelling of the word "theater" as opposed to the usual French spelling "theatre". Shepherdstown itself is a very attractive and charming old town on the banks of the Potomac. It has kept its charm by preserving and continuing to use its older buildings, and its restaurants range from fine dining to a casual diner. All are excellent--at least I haven't found one I didn't like in the 3 years I've been attending the Festival.
