The Texas Zoo

Reviewed By Navigator718387 - McAllen, United States

My parents and I finally had the opportunity to visit the Texas Zoo, and were very impressed! I surprised them with both the Black Bear Encounter, and the Eurasian Lynx Encounter for their birthdays. The experiences were INCREDIBLE! The keepers were friendly, informative, and it was obvious they loved working with the animals. We were beyond thrilled with feeding the black bears, petting them, and their adorable cries for treats were the cutest thing I’ve ever heard! The Lynx was amazing, to watch her display natural behavior while playing, pet, and, of course, be rewarded with loud purring. Both the bears, and the lynx had the freedom to decide whether or not they interacted with you, respecting their boundaries and quality of life. That makes it even more special, when they do decide to interact the entire time! The money pain for the encounters goes toward the animal’s food, medical care, and the conservation efforts of the species itself. The entire zoo was clean, the gardens were beautiful, and the animals all seemed very content and healthy. Thank you, to the keepers who work so hard, to give these mostly rescued animals a healthy, and happy life. If you have any health issues, there are places to sit, cold drinks available for purchase, and the park outside the zoo is very peaceful. The zoo has done an impressive job, recovering from Hurricane Harvey’s floods. I will definitely be back, and highly recommend a visit, for both adults and children.
