Things to do in Vermont, United States: The Best Lookouts

August 26, 2021 Elouise Mccaul

Whether you’re exploring Vermont’s covered bridges, visiting Quechee Gorge or skiing at Killington, you’ll find Vermont to be picture-perfect. If you’re the outdoorsy type, you’ll love Vermont. In winter, of course, there’s plenty of skiing and snowboarding. In the warmer months, however, Vermont offers plenty of opportunities for hiking, biking, fishing and boating. If you enjoy boating, swimming and fishing, a vacation rental on Lake Champlain might be perfect for you.

K1 Express gondola

Yes, It's a bit pricey. $30 per person for 1 round trip. But you get your own gondola for the ten minute ride and on a clear day the view is pretty sweet. I know the giant hogweed is a dangerous plant, but it sure makes a nice wildflower meadow for photos. The gondola takes you to the Peak Lodge which is by far the best top of the mountain place to eat or drink that we've ever seen, and we've seen a bunch. Lovely views and easy hiking trails. Take the ride!

Monument to a key battle of the American Revolution. The monument stands over 300 feet tall.

Loved this stop! If you go up the elevator you get a view of Vermont, New York, and Massachusetts (they have them labeled which I appreciated). The monuments placed around the grassy area were surprisingly interesting too, and continued in a little museum on the ground floor by the elevator. The gift shop was a perfect souvenir treasure trove. Oh, and nice bathrooms are right next to the gift shop too, which is a definite plus mid road trip.

We had a wonderful time at Okemo Mountain Resort, this was our first ski with our daughter who is 4. We did a private lesson with Tom who was wonderful and our daughter just wanted to keep going. The staff our top notch, the resort is beautiful and the lift tickets and lessons can get a percentage off if you book online. We will be back.

Mount Equinox Skyline Drive

This was a great thing to do but you need clear skies to appreciate the vista's. Not being over run by tourists made the trip more enjoyable. There are several vantage points to stop for the views across the valleys and take in the wonderful colors not just at the Mountaintop itself. The Visitor Center at the top is something that you must do when traveling up the mountain. There are explanatory facts about the lives of the monks in the monastery and very revealing.
