Novgorod theatre for children and youth "Mali" has been founded in 1990, and headed by artistic director Nadezhda Alexeeva. The theatre is a member of International Association of theatres for children and youth (ASSITEJ), and an active participant of Theatre Union of Russia; it has visited the theatre festivals in Japan, South Korea, Baltic countries, Norway, also at Russian festivals. In 1992 theatre “Mali” has founded the International theatre Kingfestival. Nowadays theatre "Mali" is a dynamically developing theatre space; there is a place for experiment and innovational forms. The theatre is not afraid to expand the genre borders and creates both drama performances and movement theatre. Theatre got the Special Prize "For ponderable contribution to development of Russian Theatre for youth"Theatre - participant of National Award “Arlekin” in St.Petersburg and National Award and festival “Golden Mask” in Moscow.

Sadko Street Theater is an old wooden fortress, where visitors can experience the medieval Russian atmosphere: there are a spacious stage area with unique interactive decorations depicting the port of Novgorod, and a comfortable auditorium under a canopy for 500 seats. During the tourist season, "Craft Sloboda" is open daily on the site of the Sadko Street Theater, where Novgorodians and guests of the city take part in master classes in blacksmithing, clay processing, weaving, fabric printing, leather making, creating armor and weaving chain mail, traditional folk painting and printing, minting coins, making candles and working with wax. In addition, visitors have the opportunity to do archery and take photos in medieval costumes. Friday and Saturday nights the street theater hosts the show "Folk-rock musical "Sadko", which tells the legend in a new way, but with an old Russian accent. The show is entirely created by Novgorodians.
