This Cistercian abbey has simplicity that is powerful yet soothing. The cloisters are stunning. And in June it was relatively uncrowded on a week day.

Quite amasing...and the head of the Maria Magdalena....would go again some time. Recommend a visit if youre in the area.

We visited here today 4th June. We loved the walk up to this place, through beautiful ancient forest on well graduated paths. The grotto was amazing. Someone has described it as hanging from the rocks and this is rather what it looked like from down below. Once you reach it, you can see that it is built into the rock. It is very beautiful and the view from it is stupendous. The only blot was a very large group of French teenagers, probably a school group, who were ahead of us on the walk. On the way up they were extremely noisy and we could hear them despite being a long way behind them. When we got to the grotto they were still there and their behaviour was disgraceful. There was total disregard for the notices asking for silence. They were shrieking, running up and down the steps, throwing stones at each other and over the side of the steps where they could have hit people making their way up. There were clearly too few adults supervising them and those who were with them were obviously ineffective. This shameful display of behaviour and total disregard for other people continued as they made their way back down. But once they were gone peace descended and we could enjoy this lovely place as it is meant to be appreciated.
