Things to do in Valletta, Island of Malta: The Best Tours

June 10, 2021 Viva Honore

Founded in 1565 by the Order of St John as a refuge for soldiers returning from the Crusades, Valletta is now the capital of Malta and a piece of living history. With an unsurpassed collection of original Baroque architecture, fortified city walls overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, and the spectacular Co-Cathedral of St John, which features intricately carved stone vaults and a famed painting by Caravaggio, it is no wonder that this smallest of European capital cities is a world heritage site.

We had a great time with this company. The boat is big, nice and clean and they allow a limited number of passengers onboard so that there is plenty of free space. Really enjoyed the two stops in Gozo and also the stop in Blue lagoon. Very nice and quiet place in May. On the way back the captain took us to the caves which are really amazing. Will definitely go again!!!

We were picked up at our hotel on time. Water was provided for both of us (it was a HOT day). Our guide explained the sites and worked with us to pick the ones that were the most interesting to us. While we were in the sites exploring, our driver would surprise us with samples of the local foods when we got back to the car. Excellent experience!

Our charters which are fully exclusive normally run for 9 hours from 09:00 to 18:00. We typically sail to the north of the island whereby we would be able to sail past St. Paul's Islands and reach Comino to visit a number of bays there for swimming and snorkelling as well as interesting landscapes including the Blue Lagoon and Crystal lagoon. Furthermore, our skippers would also be able to provide you with suggestions on the day based on your preferences and will make sure to make this day one to remember. We can offer a set of pre-prepared buffet style meals and a set of BBQ menu options which are freshly cooked on-board by our skippers. Should customers like to bring your own provisions, you are welcome to bring with you any provisions which would be pre-prepared and would not require any cooking onboard. Yacht is equipped with a fridge and all the cutlery, cups, plates etc. therefore you need not bring any of these with you.

Me and my fiance had to postpone our wedding due to Covid and somehow we still wanted to have a night to remember.. I've contacted David for a sunset private charter and from the very beginning he has been really kind, detailed and helpful! He offered us a Dufour Grand Large which is a really wonderful boat and a skipper to assist us throughout who was really nice with us and knowledgable! After sailing around some of our beautiful island's amazing spots, he then anchored us at Kalkara for a superb delicious bbq made with fresh food. We've enjoyed our dinner with amazing night views! To summarize it all, David and his team managed to give us an unforgettable night! We highly recommend Sailing Charters Malta to anyone looking for that special and wonderful charter. Thankyou so much Sailing Charter Malta, you've totally nailed it!

Regardless who you are, if you're going to Malta, you have not experienced fully without this guided tour of Valletta. In one day I did first the Valletta tour and then the Mdina tour with Matthew as a guide and I could not have been more satisfied. The way Matthew tells the stories of the city, reflecting on the leadership of the various knights of S:t Johns order and the strategic location of the city up until more recent times, makes you want to start studying history yourself. Even more, a real historian true to his form, Matthew skilfully relates the more contentious topics of the history and politics of the region's last millennium or so, but with objectivity, so that you yourself learn the different points of view and get a deeper understanding of what has formed Malta as she is today. To summarize - don't come to Malta without taking this tour.

I had the privilege of having Matthew as a guide when I visited Mdina yesterday, and it was an amazing experience. Matthew's deep expertise in the subject of history in general and Malta in particular, made it an unforgettable experience. In addition to telling everything worth knowing about Mdina, Matthew also excitedly answered all questions I had and revealed his deep knowledge on anything from ~2800 BC until more recent times, as well as even explaining the traces of mini elephants and their origins and how they may have ended up on Malta in pre-historic times.

Walking through the streets of Valleta and realising the city has such a rich history. My tour guide was great and provided a lot of context as we passed each street. I've been on many walking tours and have realised the tour is just as good as your tour guide - luckily for me, my tour guide was amazing making it such a rich experience. Highly recommend the Valetta city tour!
