As a retired science type, I love the redwoods. Typically, the groves anywhere near a populated area are ‘loved to death’. Not this group in late October on a Wednesday afternoon. Evidence suggests that keeping them largely hidden in the midst of the larger Lagoon Valley Park is paying off. This non-botanist noted that for trees in an urban area, they looked pretty healthy. We’ve visited almost all the groves in California. The Jack Hume grove doesn’t have the overwhelming wild ecosystem feel some of the bigger groves a lot further north have, but they’re still awesome. And they certainly lack the crowds we experienced at the areas closer to the coast. A very easy trail leads to them. The hardest part is figuring out where they are. Google Maps showed us where to park & where to walk.
