Things to do in Utah, United States: The Best Visitor Centers

April 23, 2022 Fernanda Pittenger

Welcome to “The Greatest Snow on Earth” – Utah’s paradise for all outdoor enthusiasts! As host of the 2002 Winter Olympics, Park City knows how to entertain winter fun seekers. Snowboarders and skiers head for miles of spectacular slopes with deep fluffy powder and breathtaking mountain views. The Olympic Park provides family-friendly ski programs, rides and shows. Alta, Sundance, Snowbird and Brighton are other popular destinations for cross country and Alpine skiers. Those alluring snowy slopes turn to rolling wildflower fields in the summer. Golfing, fishing, horseback riding and water sports replace chilly outdoor sports adventures. Corral the family, pack a picnic and catch one of the ski lifts for an afternoon of hiking or mountain biking along scenic trails. Head to Salt Lake City, where Temple Square hosts millions of visitors a year. Bryce Canyon and Arches National Park are famous for surreal landscapes from horseshoe-shaped amphitheaters to unusual rock formations and hundreds of natural sandstone arches. Closer to home, wander along the quaint main streets of mountain villages to browse, shop and enjoy lunch at an outdoor café. At the end of the day, head home for an outdoor barbecue and an evening of games. Home rentals blend privacy, space and comfort with the cost-saving advantage of eating some meals at home.

After a long drive through WY, we were happy to see this rest stop featuring lots of parking, walking paths to see the famous red rocks & a very diverse gift store / information centre. The info centre had lots of information on where to go & things to do in UT plus staff was friendly. The bathrooms were retro yet clean and large.

Blanding Visitor's Center

Reviewed By Seaside590093

The Blanding Visitor's Center was one of the best things to happen to us as we travelled through Southern Utah this past summer while visiting the many beautifyl National Parks. IT is head and shoulders above other visitor centers - with powerful wifi, a comfortable relaxation room for connecting and catching up with the outside world, and some great advice for things to do, places to see, eateries, etc. The friendly staff saved us gas money with their up-to-date information on the entry status of the Navajo Reservation and a scenic short cut into Canyonlands park. We also found Blanding to have the best gas prices in the region. Don't go through Blanding without stopping! We returned several times.

Flaming Gorge Dam Visitor Center

Reviewed By Wilma608 - Maple Park, United States

Extremely interesting tour -- we went down 400' down via elevator, and saw how they regulated water temperature to aid salmon in spawning. This is done by 3 or 4 levels of underwater garage doors that let in water at the correct temperature, at the correct times. We were taken through various aspects of the dam's operations, and our tour guide was a lifelong resident of the area, acquainted with the dam & the building era. Many, many photographs of the building era. Just fascinating!
