My friend and I walked into the spa for a massage and were both extremely happy with our deep tissue massages and the service at Jade spa. Thank you so much my back is feeling so much better. I was able to have her concentrate on my difficult areas which made the world of difference.

A health center where you will encounter the Huellas (footprints) of ancient massage techniques and body work therapies. Return to a time when spiritual health and well-being were a natural priority.
I was in Banos for only two full days with 3 friends, and we were all lucky to experience massages on both days. The second one wasn't planned, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to return. Cecilia took care of me the first day with honestly the best massage I've ever had, and her sister Lucia matched her skill and technique the following day. If you're heading to Banos Ecuador, you must go here!

I spent two wonderful days in Prana Spa at Hostería Monte Selva. I’m not sure exactly their business arrangement, but their booking office is right off the main park square next to Banco Pichincha. There, they show whatever specials they have, but you can basically pick and choose to customize your service. Important hints: going during the week and not on weekends is optimal. Also, the ladies at the booking office go for lunch from 12-2 - thus no recruiting happening during those hours. Both days I walked over a little after 11:00 and told them what I wanted. They closed the office and walked me the few blocks to the spa and got me checked in and set up with a therapist. Both days I was there until 3:30-4:00 with the place all to myself (last day an older gentleman came in later but was very respectful and we stayed out of each other’s way). The package I saw them offering was “Friends Pack” for $25 which included 30 minute relax massage, face mask (clay or chocolate), hot herbal tea and use of all facilities. I upgraded to an hour massage for $35 and she used hot stones on me as well. Did a light face cleansing and scrub before applying mask and then moisturizer afterwards (this was after I turned face up during massage). The massage was perfect for what I wanted (I’d done a deep elsewhere a few days before - see other review). You can pay to change to a sports/deep tissue, but this was perfect. Still firm pressure, but smooth and relaxing. I’d strained a muscle in my knee/leg day before at the waterfalls and asked her to give special attention, which she did. Got it all worked out so I could do jungle tour the next day. Jessica was my therapist both days and I felt she provided a perfect spa experience. Afterwards, I spent the rest of the day alternating in the hot natural thermal pool (the only place to have their own source of one, just like the public baths), hydro pool, Turkish (steam w/ eucalyptus) sauna, dry sauna, and outdoor pools/jacuzzi. Everything was very clean by Ecuadorian standards (if you want sterile and pristine, pay US prices and go elsewhere). The thermal pool is natural, so looks the way it should. There are two hydro pools - my first day one was on and the other drained and the next day they were switched - so clearly they drain and clean. Bathrooms very clean, as well as pool. Some of the facilities finishes are a bit rough by US standards, but that’s common in Ecuador. I saw people cleaning and improving the facilities and it looks like they were renovating some of the hostel rooms as well. Note: you will need to bring your own bathing cap (which is required) and towel. I would definitely come back here on my next trip to Baños. The only negative was the music in the outside pool area. It emanated from the bar area beside the restaurant, despite the fact that there was nobody there. It was loud and sometimes vulgar dance music, hardly appropriate for relaxing in that beautiful setting. I would suggest they confine that to evening hours or times when there are patrons at the bar and play soothing spa or Andes music during the day - or even nothing. I enjoyed resting out by the pool, but eventually found myself fleeing from the music. Otherwise, it was a perfect way to spend the day between a late breakfast and early dinner. :)
