A traditional Japanese restaurant was renovated as a new sightseeing facility, Matsushita. This facility is composed of three departments. 1st floor has Matsushita Saryo(cafe) and Matsushita Shubo(standing sake bar). 2nd main floor has Akita Maiko Theater where Akita Maiko shows Japanese dancing, tea ceremony, or special games on every Saturday. Please enjoy precious time with Akita Maiko.

As a westerner, the geisha and maiko events at Matsushita are truly like nothing else I've ever seen. The geisha and maiko (essentially apprentice geisha) are trained in classical Japanese arts, such as traditional dance; the playing of instruments such as the shamisen; singing; classical Japanese parlor games; and the tea ceremony. The geisha and maiko perform each of these sequentially for a small group, concluding in a question and answers session in case you had any questions about the art and the kind of people who pursue it. While one can Google a demonstration of any of these particular arts, the experience one gets watching it in person is quite different, and deserves being seen as such at least once. And because the prices at Matsushita are quite cheap, I would heavily recommend visiting it if you're in Akita.
