The site was home to the North West Company in the early 1800s. You are transported back to the period and can view 46 reconstructed buildings on 25 acres of land and learn from period interpreters what life was like in a trading post There are also planned activities throughout the day and we were able to sample homemade bread in the bakery. Additionally there's a visitor center, free wi-fi and virtual shows of the buildings.

Terry Fox Monument

Reviewed By SnowbirdOntario

The Terry Fox Monument is a beautiful tribute to a real Canadian hero. He continues to be an inspiration to generations of Canadians. As September marks the annual Terry Fox runs throughout Canada and the world for Cancer Research, it was especially fitting that we dropped by the monument on our visit to Thunder Bay. There was a lot of care and attention given here, even to the roadway into the monument area. It affords an excellent view of Thunder Bay and Lake Superior beyond. The monument itself is very special and the plaque detailing the Terry Fox story is important for all to read.

The Blue Point Amethyst Mine

Reviewed By Nerm58 - Calgary, Canada

I spent 3 hours at this mine and wish I'd spent more time there. ALL the praise for this mine is true. The many types of beautiful amethyst here are fairly easy to find and don't require much washing. There are also lots of great, professionally cleaned samples for sale at reasonable prices. The owner is a very accomodating, generous, and likeable gentleman. I highly recommend this experience to people of all ages.
